We are a small preservation breeder of AKC Russell Terriers in Richmond, VA. All of our dogs live in our home and we have very limited litters.

We are always happy to refer you to another breeder we work with if you are looking for a puppy and we do not have any available. We take pride in showing our own dogs in American Kennel Club conformation dog shows.

Crate training is so important for puppies 🐶

Reasons:
1. Gives them a place to feel safe
2. Gives owners a secure place to keep them at night or when they are away - ensures they can’t get into things that are dangerous to them like electric cords or items they could choke on
3. Helps with potty training - puppies don’t like to soil where they sleep
4. Travel - if they are used to a crate before you start taking them places they will be less anxious when traveling in a crate (for safety reasons your dog shouldn’t be loose in the car)

Tip: the most important tip is to make the crate a POSITIVE space for your dog!
1. Give them safe toys (lick mats here)
2. Teach them the word “crate” and reward them for willing going in the crate
3. Don’t use crates as a punishment
4. Don’t leave the puppy (or any dog) in the crate for a lengthy amount of time - varies by dog but really not longer than they can hold their bladder

Another Montgomery in the books! This year we did not enter but observed and cheered on friends. Also brought the wrong type of dog, but I think she had fun ❤️

Just sharing because I think the downsides of breeding need to be shared more. We all post our highlights on social media. But the reality isn’t as bright as we’d like it to be.

As you have seen Java had 2 puppies this last litter. She was supposed to have 5 and 3 died before birth. All on one side of the uterus, so this will be her only litter.

We tried to breed Gorda this month. Her progesterone stalled out and we weren’t able to do a breeding. A breeding we had been planning for over a year. Two days after Gorda went into heat, Monica also went into heat. Since I wanted to make sure puppies from either litter had the adequate attention they deserve, I decided to skip Monica. And now it looks like we will have no more puppies this year.

I know several people have been on my waiting list for a while. I haven’t forgotten about you. I appreciate you. But unfortunately nature has not been on our side this round. Please understand being a breeder isn’t as fun as it seems to be with all the adorable puppy posts.

Our focus is usually on the puppies, but I want to express my pride in Java for adapting to motherhood! She's done an amazing job with her first litter, even with a c-section, and has fallen deeply in love with the babies. She's a natural! ❤️

All set up for the babies to come ❤️

We have so much room in the dog area downstairs, BUT I feel it is super important for the babies to be exposed to every day household sounds, sights, scents, and experiences so I prefer their pen be in a living area. Even if we have to give up the dining room for a bit 😊

Thanks so much to Christy Rebehn of Hunter’s Moon for co-breeding this litter with me and keeping them strong and healthy their first two weeks. Teamwork makes the dream work!

The 🎉Party Litter🎉 has made their appearance. After much anticipation and work from Christy Rebehn helping to keep Java healthy during her pregnancy, the two little party animals have made their appearance! Two girls and we can’t wait to see how they grow. Mama and pups are doing well ❤️
