Crate training is so important for puppies 🐶
Reasons:
1. Gives them a place to feel safe
2. Gives owners a secure place to keep them at night or when they are away - ensures they can’t get into things that are dangerous to them like electric cords or items they could choke on
3. Helps with potty training - puppies don’t like to soil where they sleep
4. Travel - if they are used to a crate before you start taking them places they will be less anxious when traveling in a crate (for safety reasons your dog shouldn’t be loose in the car)
Tip: the most important tip is to make the crate a POSITIVE space for your dog!
1. Give them safe toys (lick mats here)
2. Teach them the word “crate” and reward them for willing going in the crate
3. Don’t use crates as a punishment
4. Don’t leave the puppy (or any dog) in the crate for a lengthy amount of time - varies by dog but really not longer than they can hold their bladder
The puppies just want to make sure other puppies take advantage of these free “toys” 🐶
