Iris would like to formally invite all Legato Farm students and friends to a Christmas barn party/ open house on Saturday, December 21st from 6pm to 8pm. Join us to share some holiday spirit and to celebrate the winter solstice. We’d love for you to bring some cookies to share and look forward to a night full of laughter, music and pony snuggles!

It can be hard at this time of year when it’s often cold and wet and dark to find the joy in the holiday season. So this year, on the darkest day of the year, we’ll gather to usher in the joy of the season knowing that each passing day will get a little bit lighter, a little bit brighter as we head shortly into the new year. We look forward to seeing everyone, sharing stories of the past year’s adventures and our goals for the upcoming year ahead. Happy holidays everyone 🎄🐴🎅🏻🤠

December update time for Legato Farm and it is hard to believe that 2024 will be coming to an end in just a few short weeks. It has been a fulfilling year to say the least as we met many new students and had our first full year of showing on and off the farm, in addition to some fun and memorable camps, clinics, and get-togethers. The Legato King unfortunately suffered a minor splint fracture (probably from having a little too much fun in the field running around with Grey) and is on a recovery regimen of stall rest and hand walks. Charm might be reveling in his time on the bench a little too much as he has been getting extra treats, snuggles, and…coffee? With the right care and treatment, Charm will be back as our resident schoolmaster for lessons and showing in 2025 (convincing him that he isn’t retired yet will be the biggest challenge in his recovery 😂). We hope everyone enjoys this holiday season and has the chance to spend time with those people (and ponies) who matter most. 🎄🐴✨

Yesterday was our 7 year “gotcha” day anniversary for one of our farm-favorite superstar ponies…Laurelhighland Iris! It’s been very special to raise her from a weanling and see how much she’s grown (not just in height but in her knowledge and understanding). Our students of all ages love this mare with big personality and heart and we do too!

Last night was a tough one for the Legato family as we said goodbye to our dear friend Georgie. Sara and George grew up together and with a partnership honed over 19 years, they were truly magical to watch. Those who saw the duo in action would have never guessed that the handsome man was 26 years old. As we all know, part of having horses is having to let them go. While we are absolutely heartbroken for Sara, we also know that her equestrian story will continue and as we mourn the loss of Georgie, we also look forward to the next chapter. Fly high Georgie! We’re gonna miss you buddy.

Legato Farm closed out our show season at home last Saturday with our final schooling show of the year. It was our best show experience yet as we were fortunate to have a licensed dressage judge join us for a lead line class and multiple Intro test and Training level test rides. Congrats to all our little riders, our junior rider, and our adult riders for getting into the show ring and we are beyond proud of everyone’s progress! A special thanks to Erica from Blue Iron Dressage for giving our students insightful feedback and educating them on the judging process. We also had a wonderful photographer back at the farm to capture the special partnerships between our horses and riders (shout out to Maison’s Photography). Last but not least, we appreciate our students who volunteered to help run the show to scribe and score tests (awesome job Amber, Jan and Pam)! With all the fun we had hosting, it sure looks like Legato Farm will be running future schooling shows in spring and fall for our amazing students as we head into Year 2 of operations. 🏅 🐴 🏆

Legato Farm was again well represented by Sara (Bob Ross) and her paint Georgie (hehe) and Jan with her best gal Mona at this weekends schooling show. It was an especially beautiful day with gorgeous Fall color, beautiful sunshine and a very relaxed show environment. Both teams performed exceptionally well bringing home two first place, one second place and one third place ribbon for their efforts. To top it off, Sara and Georgie earned a bottle of wine for their excellent final half which earned them a nine. Well done and congratulations ladies!!! Many thanks to By Chance Farm for another well run show and to judge Aviva Nebesky for her wonderful feedback, the perfect mix of encouragement and helpful notes to assist each team in improving along their dressage journey.

Keeping the Halloween fun going with our adult riders last evening. Such a fun group of ladies who put our ponies through their paces with dressage tests to music, spooky riding dares and costumes of course!

One of our little riders has been participating in “virtual showing” and by submitting a video of her executing movements and patterns she earns ribbons! Iris was happy to help her earn her very first show ribbon as she is learning all about how to use the “gas pedal” for forward (leg), brakes and steering. What a great idea and way to help set achievable goals! Super proud of her and this is just the beginning! 🏆 🥇🐎

Our Legato team is celebrating Fall with many exciting events with our equine partners. This weekend took us to a schooling show with Paige, Avery and Leah piloting Mona and Davis through several classes.

Paige, the fabulous Ms. Fox, kicked it off riding two solid tests with Mona earning first and second place ribbons for their efforts. Super proud of Paige who kept Mona on task despite her best efforts to visit the judge at C instead of completing her test. Well done!

Despite a challenging warm up, Avery encouraged Davis to complete two very mature tests also earning a first and second place for their efforts. Awesome job cowgirl!

Last but not least, Leah policed Mona through the final two tests of the day. Despite a few bobbles in the walk tour, this team performed beautifully showing off the partnership this team has crafted over the past several months. Red and yellow ribbons were a nice finishing touch to end the day. Well done team!
