The Pembroke Police Department has become aware of some new scams involving Venmo. The link provided below outlines several of the most common Venmo scams.

In addition to these common scams, we have recently been informed of a new technique. Venmo users are receiving a notification on their cell phone stating that their account will be permanently frozen within the next hour unless they verify their information via the link provided. Once they click the link their account is compromised and all transfers from the victim are redirected to the hacker’s account. To delay the discovery of this scam the hackers may add several new stolen debit/credit cards to the victims Venmo Account and then transfer the identical amount to the original/intended recipient. Eventually the intended recipient will be notified that the funds were furnished via a stolen debit or credit card. Venmo will either rescind the money or freeze the accounts of both parties until repayment is made or the incident is deemed to be fraudulent
