Winter might be on its way, but local food doesn’t hibernate! 🍎❄️ This time of year, your support means more than ever. Local farmers keep harvesting, packing, and showing up at market long after the summer crowds fade, and every purchase helps keep that work going through the off-season.

While several of our summer markets have wrapped up, Agriberry still attends many year-round markets — so you can keep your fridge stocked with local goodness all winter long!

Check the calendar above to see when and where to find us this November. 💜

The bad news: Construction continues at our Bon Secours Ramsey UMC Market through the end of October, which means no markets through October - a change from a few weeks ago. We'll plan to be back there on Thursdays in November -6th, 13th and 20th 10-1130a.

This week General Manager Pierson headed to Philadelphia for the 10th Biennial Berry Health Benefits Symposium, where researchers and growers came together to share the latest on how berries support our bodies—from brain to gut to heart. 🫐

The takeaway? Eating a colorful mix of fruits, especially berries, helps keep our systems strong and balanced. While visiting New Jersey’s Pine Barrens, Pierson even caught the cranberry harvest and learned how farmer-owned co-ops like Ocean Spray and The Cranberry Institute are studying these little red powerhouses.

We may not grow cranberries here at Agriberry, but we’re big believers in all berries. Whether it’s raspberries, cranberries, strawberries, or even elderberries, adding more berries to your diet is a delicious way to do something good for your body—and for the berry community, too! 🍓💪

Kiwi berries are officially in season! 🥝

Never seen them before? Think of them as a bite-sized cousin of the kiwi — smooth-skinned, no fuzz, and no peeling required. Just pop them in your mouth like grapes! Inside, they’ve got the same bright green flesh and sweet-tart flavor you love in a kiwi, but often even more intense and aromatic.

Native to Asia, kiwi berries were first introduced to the U.S. in the late 1800s, but have only recently started catching on as a specialty fruit here.

Just like their larger cousins, they’re packed with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. The season is short and sweet, so enjoy them while you can!

Say hello to the Reddy Robin pear! 🍐
Rosy on the outside, crisp and juicy inside, this variety is sometimes called a “papple” (pear + apple) — it looks like an apple but has the sweet, refreshing crunch of an Asian pear.

Originally developed in New Zealand, Reddy Robins are still rare in the U.S., and they’re one of the few red-blushed Asian pears you’ll find. They’re perfect for snacking fresh, slicing into salads, or pairing with cheese and charcuterie. 🧀🍇

This is our first season offering them from a partner farm, and they’ll only be here for a short time. If you love Asian pears — or just like being the first to taste something new — this is your chance to try them!

Cultivating Vitality through Great Fruit!

Founded in 2008, Agriberry Farm is owned and operated by the Geyer family–Anne and Chuck Geyer, and their adult children, Pierson and Colleen Geyer. The Geyers grow fruit, including raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums and apples on 25 acres of land in Hanover, Virginia, about 30 minutes northeast of Richmond. The Geyers grow their strawberries on land in Moseley, Virginia, south of Richmond in Chesterfield County.

In addition to participating in area farmer’s markets and working with select specialty retailers, the farm offers the only fruit-oriented CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or weekly Fruit Share Box program available in the greater Richmond area, as well as Virginia’s Northern Neck and the greater Annapolis, Maryland area. Year-round financial support provided by the Farm Share members has enabled Anne and Chuck to build strong partner relationships with other area farmers and to help fulfill Anne’s dream of a summer-long “Young Worker Training Program.” This program enables area youth to gain first-time work experience, hands-on agricultural experience, and a deeper appreciation of their own food supply.

The Geyers operate a “full disclosure” farm, and they will happily provide information as to the source and supporting farm practices of the food they bring to market. While the source and variety of fruit varies each season, you can learn more about many of the long-time farm partners of Agriberry Farm.

Agriberry Farm was founded with no land or working capital at the height of an economic downturn. The Geyers hope their success will inspire the start of more new Specialty Crop farms. The Geyers remain deeply grateful for the support of their long-time customers, family and the USDA grants that made their start possible.
