Then and Now Edition:

Winona Horse Trials
* first event on Huffman's neighbors hay field
* next couple of years at the Canfield Fairgrounds
* 1991 all dressage moved to Stone Gate with the warm up in
the front field near the water jump
* after a particularly wet spring it was decided to move the
dressage warm up to the lower sand ring. Although it is not
ideal, it does work a lot better.

Then & Now- general dressage differences. I'll get you started, feel free to add.
* Then we did USEF dressage tests. Now there are tests specifically written for event horses
* Then dressage was more heavily weighted. I believe final score was multiplied by 1.5 scores ranged from the 50's to 70's or more. Now they test is scored like a straight dressage test then converted from a percentage score to a penalty score. Basically if you score a 70% you would get 30 penalties today
* Then (and not that long ago) there were NO HALF POINTS. Now there are half points when IMHO has resulted in better scores and fewer ties.
* Then wore hunt caps and top hats. Now safety helmets are required

Can you think of anything else? If so. please share.

https://form.jotform.com/250393128507052 UPDATE: STARTER Competitors who want to do an unrecognized one day on Saturday we NEED to hear from you ASAP! So far I have only heard from 5 people who would prefer the Unrecognized one day but all but 1 would run the recognized 2 day if the unrecognized isn't offered. If I don't hear from more people who want the 1 day unrecognized I'm going to only offer the 2 day recognized because it is whole lot more work and volunteers to run cross country and show pumping on Saturday for a handful of people. Thank you.

Todays question is a bit of ancient history but take a stab at it. When we approached Huffman's about using their farm for the event we told them that when we got our own farm we would move it there. In any case how long did we tell them that we would be there? Keep in mind, we didn't own a farm yet ;) Part 2, how long did we actually run cross country at their farm?

I made this form in November and put it on the back burner. Well when I went to check it out it wasn't working quite right because I hadn't set everything up correctly. In any case, after talking to tech support at Constant Contact a couple of times, I think it's ready for prime time. In order to make sure we have enough food for everyone we are doing pre-registration. Don't forget to print your ticket not only to get in but to be eligible for a bunch of door prizes! Hope you can join us, it's going to be a lot of fun!! ink in the comments.

Stone Gate Farm Volunteers 'Then and Now'edition'

Then: There were no computers then. You depended on friends, students, Pony Club and family with communication all in person, on the phone, word of mouth or USPS. I made a file of 3 x 5 cards to keep track of everyone.

Now: With the use of the USEA Volunteer Incentive Program everything is handled on-line complete with e-mail communication and automatic . It is a huge improvement but still a lot of work.

While much has changed over the years, there are a few things that haven't; volunteers are still the lifeblood of eventing and we couldn't do it without them! However, getting enough volunteers has been challenging and it seems to be even more challenging now. So I'm starting to recruite early for Winona. While I'm still in the process of updating the sign up, (the times and jumps are from last year) but it will give you an idea. Below is the link to sign up. https://www.eventingvolunteers.com/events/8530/signup Thank you in advace.

Please consider supporting the new cross country course at the Fairway. You have no idea the money and work it takes to develop an eventing facility for all of us to enjoy! 🐴

UPDATE: The answer is 1,175 miles. Details in the comments

Stone Gate Farm Volunteers Edition: The vast majority of our volunteers live more than an hour away and we are very appreciative of their support. However, we have 3 volunteers that have travelled much further and the interesting things is than NONE of them have ever ridden at Winona! They are Carroll Crowl, Judy Dugan and Dan Harvey. The trivia question is, what is the approximate combined one way milage of these 3 volunteers extraordinaire?
A) 750 miles
B) 900 miles
C) 1,175 miles
D) 1,325 miles
Who travelled the furthest?
Check back tonight for the 'rest of the story'. In the mean time lets hear from the rest of the volunteers and share how far you have to drive to volunteer and if you strictly volunteer or you compete AND volunteer.
