Tonight was the very first Randall County PeeWee Rabbit Contest! We are so grateful to the parents who made it happen, HF&C Feeds Amarillo for sponsoring prizes, and the older exhibitors who helped out.

The contest consisted of Showmanship, Breed ID, Quiz & Poster contests. Randall Co. Senior exhibitors helped by grading the little ones, and it was really special to watch them work together.

Our Alysen earned Reserve Grand Champion and each contestant walked away with a gift bag of goodies and study materials.

This was such a special event to be a part of, may it continue for decades to come!

Disclaimer before the trolls find us: nothing leaves our barn under 8 weeks old. We prefer for them to be much older than that, so we can keep an eye on their quality as it develops.

We’ve had 2 litters of Satins & 3 litters of Mini Satins born this week.
Next week we’re expecting a litter of Himalayans & 3 litters of Dutch.

First time tort Mini Satin Momma, HT Morning Glory made a FABULOUS nest three days in advance then proceeded to pull more and more fur once she delivered her 7 tort babies sired by J&Cs Ozzy. We are so very proud of her! The rest were experienced Mommas that thankfully all did amazing jobs once again!

Isn’t it so fun to learn which does nest well in advance and which ones nest the hour of?

The Chinchilla Mini Satins are six weeks old now and making us even more anxious to get to spring show season. They’ve got lots of growing and practicing to do but Reba sees lots of potential!

DOB 3/4/24 • Current Weight 8lbs 4oz

Mystik has never been bred. I had plans to pair her with a large blue buck this spring, but looking at cage space, it’s apparent I’m going to have to let go of this variety. She is the last of the Himalayan Satins. She has a very docile personality and enjoys sitting in my lap while I drink my coffee. We would not hesitate to recommend her for a kid, as long as they’re strong enough to handle a rabbit this size. She is out of a blue doe x white buck pairing.

We’ve got lots of earrings available that would make great gifts, and we’re working on getting “all things Christmas” earrings photographed and uploaded in another post.

The girls help in one way or another with each pair of earrings, whether it be decided the order of the beads or just adding the hardware. We originally started this as a way for them to earn the money to start their rabbit projects, now we keep doing it because I love teaching them they can make a profit from the work of their own hands.

Alysen has decided to offer Princess to a pet home.

Pros: She’s very sweet, always up for loves, fun & curious, which is to be expected of Dutch.

Cons: These only apply when you’re wanting her to show, or make babies to show. She’s much smaller than your average Dutch, just barely making senior weight, and her babies also seem to be of this extra small variety. Her Mom is rather large, her Dad was average sized & the buck we paired her with is also average sized, so we’re not sure what’s going on here, but we cannot recommend her as a brood though, though she is proven and took great care of her litter. She also has a “tied-elbow” marking, which would be a disqualification on the show table.

A rehoming fee will apply and you better hurry before Alysen changes her mind! It’s taken us months to get her to make this decision.

We have some forms that we fill out after each show which cover what we liked, what could have been better, how our show team did and how the kids did in youth contests. This is a way for us to see how we can serve better, what suggestions we should make and where we need to focus on improving ourselves or our rabbits. Hopefully 🤞 I’ll have these forms set up and ready to share for 2025! I originally created them so that the kids would have their info all in one place when it’s time to sit down and work on royalty applications.

Anyways, todays’ case in point, Alysen (6) was not happy that the judge didn’t know about the Golden Yellow variety in Dutch, which was approved in 2023.
