Welcome to the team, Katherine Michels! Katherine is now taking new students on, call or message the barn to get her phone number.

Katherine is a Harbor Springs local, learning to ride at Rising Hope (then Black Forest) in the 90’s. Starting her jumping education under Alison Cram, Katherine focused on and competed in the hunter jumper arena. With an interest in other disciplines, Katherine fell in love with dressage and natural horsemanship at Bay Harbor equestrian center, under Alicia Byberg and Leah Keller. In 2009, the decision was made to work for Courtney King Dye, a dressage Olympian for the US team. During this time, she also worked under other olympians such as Lendon Grey. This opportunity allowed Katherine to gain experience in the dressage arena and the international show world. After completing her internship, Katherine moved to Middleburg VA. Here she trained with Olympians such George Morris, Jimmy Wofford, Linda Zang, and Alison Springer. Katherine spread her focus from dressage, hunters, jumpers, and even eventing. She also continued her dressage education under silver medal rider Julie Shannon, and dressage judge Leslie Olson.

Katherine believes that a good foundation on the ground with your horse is essential. Regardless of what discipline you ride, effective ground work, and dressage basics will make any discipline successful.
