Hunting is a totally different game now compared to when I was a teenager. Allow me to explain:When I hunted as a kid the gear was vastly different. Almost no one wore Camo and if they did it was most often surplus military camo from the Vietnam war era. Portable deer stands especially climbing stands were practically unseen and those that used them were considered daredevils with a death wish. Ev
eryone used re-curve bows and most people considered the new compound bows to be cheating. The only attractant we had was doe urine and most often you harvested it yourself from a doe you killed (which was rare because doe used to be quite restricted). No one had a range finder and most never even used any type of glass (binoculars or spotting scopes). The best we had for a “cover scent” was to rub some pine straw on us. I hunted with a 20 gauge pump shot-gun with 00 buckshot because few used slugs back then. My bow was a Bear 45 pound draw re-curve (which I never killed so much as a mosquito with). I never even heard people talk about calls. Trail cameras did not exist. It was a different time – almost prehistoric by today’s standards. This old dog is ready to learn ALL the new tricks. Just about everything I knew no longer applies. So at 49 I am a novice hunter all over again.
