Meet Sheriff Rio. The Sheriff comes to stay with us a few times throughout the year and we truly love having him. He is probably the most particular dog that we keep. In order to keep him eating and happy, things have to be done the same way it is at home. Here are some examples.

1) He won't eat out of my hanging feeders. He has to have his bowl from home.

2)He has to have just a little water on his food. Not too much. If there's too much water or not any water, he won't eat his food.

3) He likes a clean bowl for water, not a regular water bucket. Also, he won't drink if there is a dead moth in his water bowl. He will glare at me and bark if the water is unacceptable.

4) He is pretty snooty and doesn't "play" with other dogs. Unless I'm not looking, then he will socialize until he has been caught socializing, then he is back to being snooty.

5) I can't move his things until his owner is in my driveway. If I dare touch his bag, his bed, or his leash outside of feeding times, he knows he is going home. He gets very excited. At this point, we have started walking to meet his parents. He's ready to go home and power-walking down the driveway. I'm toting all of his things.

We can tell that the Sheriff keeps his household in line. He runs a pretty tight ship. But we truly love his visits with us. He has a wonderful personality and he accepts us as his people too. Till next time Sheriff Rio ❤️

Cash is a first-timer for boarding this weekend.

Here's what your dog will experience during a first time stay:

-Nervousness at drop-off. This is completely normal. They don't know what is going on or why they are being left here.

-After parents leave - curiosity. New sights and smells along with a lot of new faces to meet.

-Uncertainty during turnouts. We introduce them to new dogs one at a time. We start with very mellow dogs then try to match energy levels. Playful dogs go with other playful dogs. Mature dogs go with other mature dogs. We also consider size and personality.

- After we get our turn-out groups, new dogs learn the rules. We have the 3 Hs - No Hu***ng, No Hackles, No Hyper-Fixation.

-Relief when owners show up. It's been fun, but they were worried they would have to stay here.

Here's what we expect with 2nd timers:

-A little nervousness at drop off.

-Excitement as soon as the owners leave. It's time to play.

-They know me and they know the rules. It's time for fun 😀

For every stay thereafter.

- some nervous-type dogs still show nervousness at drop off. But by this time they know their owners are coming back. They will eat much better and settle in quicker. Some of these dogs don't really like playing, and they hang with me during turnouts, get their scratches, and wait out their time here.

-95% of dogs - excitement upon arrival. It's time to party from the time they come in until the time their folks show up.

We love each and every dog that comes to stay with us and we feel privileged to be part of their life ❤️

Oh, and Cash is a super cool dude and we are happy we get to care for him this weekend ❤️

Bling helped me gather the heifers to the feed bunk. One of the heifers has a social disorder and didn't want to be close to the others. Bling wasn't covering her stock and that heifer would just pop back out. By the time we got to the house, I had sent Bling to that heifer several times. She finally started covering her corners better and brought that heifer into the group without quitting her. What a beautiful August day we had. The CRP is still green!! How amazing is that?

Kipp went on vacation with us this year. She had a great time! She played fetch in the mountains and got to go for a swim in a mountain lake. I'm sure the water was cold, but she definitely didn't mind.

Agreed 😂

You know it's a great day when you get to play fetch in the mountains. Kipp goes with us wherever we go. I think she would burn the place down if we left her at home. My kids refer to her as "The Star Child"😂😂😂

I mean, maybe they aren't wrong. Kipp is always up for a good time, she listens better than my kids, and she never talks back...She could check her attitude, though 🤷‍♀️😂
