Some say Frank is 30ish others say he’s got to be closer to 40.. all I know is that he’s old as hell and it’s hard to tell when they’ve only got three teeth in their head.
It’s 20 degrees tonight and Frank is fat, warm and happy.
If you’re wondering, no, he’s not on any miracle supplements, no fancy commercial senior grain, and no, he clearly doesn’t stay up in box stall with a blanket on.
He eats a mash of alfalfa pellets and a custom mixed grain that’s made from local, organic ingredients with no filler, made fresh every week, that costs $250 a ton.
He gets his teeth checked every six months. He gets wormed every three. He always has clean water to drink. He has access to good mineral.
You don’t need every fad supplement, grain or gimmick to keep your horse healthy. The basics, done right, are what truly makes the difference.
We love this crotchety old man, even if he does make us chase him around the pasture endlessly every time he needs caught 😑
