Part 4 of our series πΎ Our philosophy on dog grooming and maneuvering some of the challenges!
Dog grooming is quite an adventure at times π Different personalities, the dog's nerves, and familiarity with grooming tools and practices (to name a few) can create quite a busy personality on the grooming table π We believe the dog's safety, both physically and emotionally, is top priority! The more often a dog is groomed professionally, they become more comfortable with the routine and a rapport of trust and confidence is built between the groomer and the dog, creating a more positive experience.
We believe in quality over quantity! Scheduling an ample time block allows for the dog to acclimate, and sometimes even play with the daycare & boarding kiddos to burn off extra energy. We make sure needs are met, offering treats on occasion, fresh bottled water to hydrate, and potty time. Sometimes slowing the process and giving a dog breaks is needed, and that is perfectly fine by us!
As the groomer, I am sure to center myself before dog grooming, ensuring I have had meals, praying to clear my mind, and asking God to guide us through the process positively. Finally, the needs to know I will lead them through the process and they can trust me. I use firm, short cues similar to my practices in .
