It's looking better - it will be so nice when it's done! The electric for the barn and arena lights should be run this week, and then we should be on the home stretch.

Happy to report the arena is complete and has survived its first rain storm ⛈️

Now we just have to wait for the grass seed to germinate, and then we can add fencing and lights!

Tackled Full Gallop today at IP - Rusty was a superstar as usual, putting in a solid dressage test for a 35 and show jumping CLEAR over his second ever Intermediate track 😁 Made the decision not to try to make time today, so dropped to second after cross country, but what a day!

Also very proud of Amanda and Tennessee tackling their first recognized Beginner Novice and finishing on their dressage score - a solid start to the year for these two!

So many things to be thankful for 🙂 we started the year with Rusty on stall rest from the splint saga and ended the year placing in the CCI*, I have two great students who are improving their riding and their horses, and Sonny is happy and healthy and spoiled 🙂 and of course I have great support from family and friends, and an awesome coach 😁

What a week! We pulled into the AECs Tuesday with Rusty lame in front and weren't sure we were even going to be able to start, and finished the week having to convince Rusty the victory gallop was not a race ;). Fortunately, after removing one close nail Tuesday evening, he was sound and off we went to finish seventh in the Prelim Rider division. Rusty was awesome all weekend, very forward, and game over a tough cross country track in less than ideal footing. Very pleased with our efforts and progress this week!

Beyond thrilled with Rusty this past weekend - he was overall much more rideable in dressage than during the same test a month ago, and he answered some tough cross country questions Saturday and came back to jump a great showjumping round Sunday to finish 4th in the Open Preliminary Championships at Chatt Hills.

Rusty brought home another blue ribbon today after jumping clear and fast around the Vista's derby cross course. As I was driving home, I was thinking about how the ribbon is never my goal - rather, my goal is to improve each phase over our last time out. After years of working on making each phase better, the ribbons just seem to happen now :) But regardless of the ribbon color, we still have plenty to improve and work on to be better next time - the learning is never done!

Our first recognized show of 2017 is in the books! Rusty finished on his dressage score at FENCE to secure second place in Open Prelim, and was part of the amazing Irish I Knew What I was Doing winning team for the Team Challenge - I guess we knew what we were doing after all!

First (schooling) show of the year in the books! Rusty scored a respectable 64.7 on Second Level test 3 to bring home first place, and completed his 3'7 showjumping round with all the rails up for second place. Got some good cross country schooling in Friday too, so getting all set to rock 2017!

ISO horses for two students, details below:

First student is a gutsy junior/young rider looking for a horse to get into lower level eventing with. Must be sound with a good brain, forward is okay and even desirable. Must have good dressage basics and be well started over fences, and must have scope for Novice/Training. Ideally under 10 since they plan to keep and compete this horse long term. Budget under $7500. Will be subject to pre-purchase exam.
No cribbers as the barn will not accept them. Nothing straight off the track or unstarted/green/prospect.

Second student is a timid advanced beginner looking for a safe steady-eddy type for OFF-SITE LEASE. Must have three steady gaits, more of a kick ride preferred, and be capable of jumping 2'3 - 2'6. Will be ridden in hunters and possibly some low level eventing. MUST be beginner safe - rider is currently w/t/c and jumping small fences but needs a good confidence builder. Age not important, but rider is tall for her age so nothing under 14hh. Somewhat negotiable, but would prefer to stay under $300/month for the lease. To be located in Evans, GA

Home from a great weekend at Area III Championships - lots of high notes from the weekend, with Rusty really showing off his medium trot and medium canters in dressage, running around cross county clear and inside the optimum time for the second time in our Prelim career (now we've done it twice, so we know FENCE wasn't a mistake!), and well, showjumping was showjumping. Very happy that I waited for all the fences and kept the same ride beginning to end, just needed to organize a little quicker when he jumped me out of the tack ;) Good enough to finish in the ribbons in the Open Prelim championship, and we've got three months to sort out the rest of showjumping and those pesky halts in dressage before AECs - watch out Tryon!
