Months ago. But um, we’re all set now. We don’t need this 8-15” in 3 days. There’s no need to play catch up in a week Mother Nature.

8/5/24 @ 5:45 PM - Debby made landfall as a category 1 hurricane this morning in the Big Bend region of Florida and has since been downgraded to a tropical storm. Our biggest concern for eastern North Carolina remains to be heavy rainfall bringing the threat of flash flooding. This is the kind of thing that is killing small farms. People ask why we won’t pursue Organic Certification. It costs literally 10’s of thousands in inspections, time and paperwork not to mention the required documentation. For what? To be circumvented by our own government to allow virtually unregulated product into the market under the same Title? I’ll save the money and grow responsibly without the stamp or inspections.
Fisherman have it just as bad. Only 2% of
Imported seafood is inspected. of that 2% 80% fails inspection.
Eat local. Eat seasonal. Eat fresh.

Heartfelt Thanks for Your Incredible Support!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude and joy as we reach out to you today. Thanks to your generosity and support, we have achieved an amazing 42% of our financial goal in just 10 days! This would not have been possible without your kindness and belief in our cause.

Your contribution is making a significant impact, and we are excited about the progress we have made so far. Every donation brings us closer to our goal and enables us to continue our important work. We couldn't be more thankful for your role in this journey.

However, our mission is not yet complete. We still have a way to go, and we need your help to keep the momentum going. Here are a few ways you can continue to support us:

1. Share Our Campaign: Spread the word by sharing our campaign link on your social media platforms. Your voice can reach people we might not be able to, and your endorsement means the world to us.

2. Encourage Others to Join: Talk to your friends, family, and colleagues about our cause and encourage them to contribute. Personal recommendations are incredibly powerful.

3. Stay Engaged: Follow our updates and continue to be a part of our journey. Your ongoing support and encouragement are vital to us.

Here is the link to share: http://spot.fund/9tbh7sc

Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your incredible support. Together, we are making a difference, and with your help, we can reach our goal and beyond.

With deepest gratitude,

It may be a little difficult to see, but there’s an edge in the middle of these photos. Christmas Eve 23’ we applied 750lbs of lime to the 1/2 acre on the right. The left hasn’t been altered. The natural pH level of soils in our area is fairly low, around 4.7. Just adding lime will help raise the pH and make nutrients more available as evident by this difference in the w**d growth.

Have you noticed a weird substance coming out of your squash? That’s a Squash Vine Borer. These moths lay their eggs on the base of squash vines in early summer. Usually around the first of June in our area. They typically have one generation per year but can have 2 In the south east.
Best bet is to start your squash early indoors. Get your first crop harvested before June 1. As soon as your transplants start to throw fruit plant your second succession. This allows you to harvest on either side of the reproductive cycle. Once the larva breaks into the stalk it’s over for the plant. They eat their way up the vine killing the plant. You can cover your squash with bug netting early to keep them off for a while. But they do overwinter in the soil. So rotate your plantings!

Yes, we posted this picture on our storyboard to let y'all know what we will be bringing to the Beaufort Farmer's Market tomorrow, BUT I just had to post it as well. I wanted to take a moment and reflect on the hard work it takes to produce all of this! More importantly, I wanted to recognize the farmer, my husband, who works so hard to make his dream a reality each and every day. Whether he's fighting the weather, the bugs, the long hours, the physical toll on his body, he gets up each and every day ready to do it all again. Shout out to him and all farmers who get up each and every day to keep their dream alive. I am so proud of you, Ryan!

Choosing local, choosing fresh, choosing healthy is not just about local economy, it’s about choosing methods of sustainable practice that ensure our grandchildren and beyond will have the same access to a good life as those that came before us." -Ryan @ HCM

We are coming into swarm season for Honey Bees. Swarming is a hives way of increasing the population. In the spring the hive population will explode. When it does, the Queen and approximately 60% of the hive will leave all at once and cluster up until they find a new home. This cluster is what you see above. So, If you see a glob of bees hanging somewhere, please don’t spray them! Contact me via phone or socials and I’ll come get them! We have plenty of space for additional hives! If you can’t find me consider the Crystal Coast Beekeepers as they have a list of others who can help. 🐝
