Day 2 of our Allergy Crash Course 🤓

Today's Topic: Environmental Allergies 🍃

Environmental allergies occur when pets react to substances in their surroundings, and they're common in both cats and dogs.

Common Allergens:
-Pollen: Trees, grasses, and weeds
-Mold: Indoor and outdoor molds, especially in humid areas
-Dust Mites: Thrive in homes and can cause reactions

Symptoms:
Itching, scratching, red skin, ear infections, licking or chewing paws, watery eyes, runny nose, and hair loss.

Ways to Help Your Pets:
- Avoidance: Minimize exposure to allergens when possible
- Antihistamines: Ask your veterinarian about over the counter options and dosage
-Steroids: Reduce inflammation and itching, but not for long-term use
-Allergy Shots: Desensitize pets to allergens
-Topical Treatments: Use shampoos designed for allergies
-Environmental Control: Close windows during pollen seasons, use air purifiers, and clean frequently

Treating your pet at home can be tricky. Call us to make an appointment to speak with your veterinarian for the right decision for your pet.

Happy August! 🐶🐱 It's Itchy Pet Awareness Month! We're here to help you better understand and treat your itchy pets.

Today's topic: food allergies 🤧

Food allergies, especially to chicken, are common. Watch for these signs:

-Skin Itching: Redness, rashes, hot spots.
-Digestive Issues: Vomiting, diarrhea, excessive gas.
-Ear Infections: Chronic infections or inflammation.
-Lethargy: Low energy.

Diagnosing food allergies can be tricky. An elimination diet works best: remove suspected foods for 8-12 weeks and observe any changes. Gradually introduce new foods, mixing them with the old diet and reducing the old food each day. Read all labels—ingredients can be sneaky!

Still with me? Show us your fur babies enjoying their meals! 🍗

You've got the scoop on food allergies and starting an elimination diet. Need help? Give us a call! ☎️

Did you know we have a laser here at Roane Veterinary Hospital? Do you know what it can help your pets with?

Let’s talk about it. The therapy laser treatment is an FDA-cleared, deep-penetrating light that allows relief of pain through the release of endorphins and stimulates any injured cells to heal at a faster rate. Laser therapy provides immediate results without any dangerous side effects or medications.

What can it be used for?

•Arthritis in our senior pets
•Pain relief from traumatic injuries
•Advanced wound healing
•Post-surgical pain relief and healing
•Periodontal disease
•And so much more!

Enjoy our picture of one of our veterinarians, Dr. Spence, and a sweet patient who got laser treatment today wearing their protective eye wear! 😎

This might seem like a bit of a strange thing for us to post today, but did you know we are fortunate enough to have an amazing veterinarian in our clinic who hails from our friendly northern neighbor? This is a week of independence and freedom for all of us. Dr. Atamanchuk and any of our amazing clients who might happen to be from there as well, Happy Canada Day!

Today is a BIG DAY for us construction wise! Our x-ray machine will be down for awhile as we move it to a new room, and cabinets and counter tops are going in as well!

We've got just a couple more short weeks of work to do and then our shiny new clinic will be ready to go!!!!!!

We apologize for any inconvenience with the x-ray today. It couldn't be helped. It's the last domino that needs to fall so the rest can fall in place!

Thank you guys so much for all of your understanding and patience through this whole thing. You're not going to recognize it when it's all said and done but our same amazing staff is going to be able to take care of you and your precious babies even better 💜

We will be closed this Saturday, May 25 and next Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

It's Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week!!!
Please join us in celebrating our absolutely STELLAR veterinary receptionists this week. Your role goes beyond just scheduling appointments; you're the first point of contact for pet owners, providing reassurance, handling inquiries, and ensuring the smooth running of the clinic. From greeting every visitor to efficiently managing phone calls and paperwork, your dedication and multitasking skills are truly remarkable. Your patience, compassion, and genuine care for every pet and their owner make a world of difference. Thank you for being the unsung heroes of vet clinics everywhere!
We are so appreciative of you and all that you do.

Someone turned in what appears to be a man's wedding band today. I do not want to post a picture so that whoever it does belong to can describe it. If you are missing yours, please comment below and I'll message you, or you can come in tomorrow and speak with a receptionist.
Thank you to the good Samaritan that brought it in.

🚧 CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION: 🚧

📆 From Friday, April 12th to Monday, April 15th, we'll be closed for some much-needed renovations. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but trust us, it's all for a good cause!

But don't worry! We've got your back! Your pet's health and well-being are always our top priority, which is why we're reminding you to refill any prescriptions you may need before we temporarily close our doors. 📝💊 Make sure you're all stocked up and ready to go!

Got any questions or need assistance? Don't hesitate to reach out to our friendly team! We're here to help make this transition as smooth as possible for you. 😊💬

Thanks a million for your understanding and continued support! We can't wait to unveil the fantastic improvements we have in store for you! Stay tuned for more updates and we'll see you Tuesday, April 16th, for business as usual! 🌟✨

With all the commotion and moving around, we are temporarily going to be reducing the amount of prescription food we have on site due to lack of storage space. Once what we have available is gone, we will not be re-ordering for while.
We recommend you giving us a call to see if we have what you need in stock. Once renovations are complete, we will bring back our regularly stocked items. If you'd like to pick up a written prescription for the food your pets use, the closest place to pick that up is the Turkey Creek Petsmart.
We do have an online pharmacy that you will be able to order from and have it shipped directly to your home if that is an easier solution for you. We highly recommend this option. If you have any questions about navigating that, you're welcome to give us a call. If you've never used that before, you get a 35% discount on your first order, plus a discount if you choose to autoship :) The link is below if you need it or you can go to our website and click the Online Pharmacy button at the top!

IMPORTANT UPDATES AND UPCOMING CLOSURE CHANGES

Hey everyone! 🌟 Time for a yet another update on our progress.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen construction changes caused by recent weather conditions, we've had to adjust our closure dates. We apologize for any confusion this may cause and we will get everyone booked (or re-booked) accordingly.

Instead of being closed this weekend as we had planned, we'll be closed next Friday, April 12th, through Monday, April 15th, reopening on Tuesday, April 16th.

We'll make sure to give you all a gentle nudge closer to those dates, so you don't miss us too much!

We're so sorry this is all so confusing, but if anyone has ever had to deal with construction, you know there's a lot of variables. We really appreciate your patience and understanding.

03/30/2024

As a reminder, we are closed this Saturday, March 30th. We will re-open Monday, April 1st at our normal time.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Things are coming together quickly! We wanted to share some pictures with you, even though there's a whole bunch of work left to do. We're working on our exam rooms and our new surgical area for the most part right now, so there's lots going on in lots of different places!
This old building has lots of fun (for lack of a better word) surprises that we're uncovering as we go along and we can't WAIT for everything to be shiny and new. We hope you love it and we know your fur babies will when it's all said and done 💜

03/17/2024

We are planning to re-open at 1:30PM tomorrow to see our scheduled appointments.

Unfortunately, due to the current layout and construction, we are going to be doing curbside service tomorrow, just to improve the flow for everyone involved. We will return to seeing all of our clients regularly on Tuesday.

We should have our new exam room walls up by Tuesday! We're all trying to keep our eye on the prize right now even though this is a little tricky to manage. Thank you for hanging in there with us!

03/12/2024

As a reminder, we will be closed Thursday and Friday this week for construction.
We currently have NO appointment slots available tomorrow or Saturday. If you have an emergency you are welcome to call us and we will do our ABSOLUTE best to get you in, but unfortunately we will most likely have to refer you to the ER in Knoxville as we will not be able to hospitalize anything during that time. We sincerely apologize if that ends up being the case.
If you need a prescription urgently, please take the time this evening to submit a Petdesk request or leave a message on our prescription line so we can get you taken care of ASAP.
Again, we are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and we appreciate your understanding. It will be worth it, we promise!!!!

03/08/2024

We will be closed next Thursday and Friday, March 14-15, due to some unavoidable construction activity that has to be done so we can continue. We will be back on Saturday, March 16. If you have an appointment on either of those days, our receptionists will be reaching out to you to get you rescheduled. We apologize for the inconvenience and as always, thank you so much for your patience and understanding!
We'll remind you a bit closer to those days as well. If you need prescriptions refilled, go ahead and get those submitted!

Things are looking mighty different everywhere right now. Keep an eye and ear out for updates. There is a possibility we will be needing to close for a day or two soon to get over a bit of a hump so we can really get things moving ☺️

Demolition is in full swing! Things are a bit noisy and messy right now but we are looking at just a couple weeks worth of construction on our front end, hopefully. Hang in there with us!

02/26/2024

Good morning friends! As a reminder, construction starts today so things might be a little bit hectic. We are having some of our equipment moved and there may be a period of time where our phones are out. Please keep trying us if you do not get an answer.

From what we know so far, the reception area is first up on the list, so unless there is an urgent need, please remain in your vehicle while you wait on your room in order for us to be able to help everyone most efficiently.

We're so excited to get this going and we're so appreciative of you as clients. Let's all keep our fingers crossed everything goes smoothly!

02/22/2024

We've heard a bunch of folks are having cell phone issues this morning....if you are unable to call to check in, please feel free to pop your head inside and let the receptionists know which vehicle you're in so we can get you checked in!
Hopefully things will be back up and running soon.
