Everyone's bellies are full and tucked in with their soft classical music for bedtime. Goodnight shelter kitties!
It's gotten a lot quieter here in the shelter... we had 3 kitties adopted in the last 4 days! Maddie is still here and she will be for a while. She's nearing the end of her pregnancy. She has a safe place to have her babies and raise them, and when they are all old enough and spayed/neutered and vaccinated, they will all be up for adoption including Maddie. She's a young girl herself. (We are not accepting applications on the kittens yet. They aren't even born yet. So just stay tuned!) Maddie has a nice soft bed with blankets, overflowing food dishes and a big bowl of fresh water all the time. She's in our maternity suite, which is a large double kennel for her comfort. Maddie came from the same property as Maverick and Goose! ❤️ I am keeping a close eye on her, hoping and praying for a healthy litter of kittens with no complications for this sweet girl.
Lulu
Lulu was spayed yesterday and is sporting her tattoo to show that she has been spayed. She rolled over to show me her belly tonight. Lulu is a sweet girl and will be available for adoption very soon!
Everyone is all tucked in for the night after their big adventure today. A little road trip and they were fixed and vaccinated. They're back here recovering nicely. And we took a page from our friends at Downeast Feral Cat Connections playbook and are playing them kitty music to relax to this evening.
Happiness is a pile of kittens. These kittens all have pending homes. They have to stay until they are old enough to leave their mom and be vaccinated and fixed. 🥰
Myrtle is wondering why she hasn't been adopted yet! She is a sweet girl. Loves people. She would prefer to be the only cat in the home!
Make sure your volume is up ⬆️ ⬆️ ⬆️ so you can hear Eve's motor running. She is named Eve because she came to the shelter on Christmas Eve, and she was pretty wild when I got her. I was swatted and got several scratches and a pretty deep puncture wound from a bite. She was just terrified and didn't know anything else. For weeks she would hiss at me every time I opened her cage to feed her. So I assumed I would get her fixed and then she would be released as a barn cat somewhere. (Hence the reason she has an ear tip) But she slowly started taking treats from my hands and letting me pat her gently on the head. The first time I heard her purr I knew she could be a pet and not a barn cat. While she still doesn't like to be picked up, she loves laying on a soft plush bed and being scratched and patted. She purrs contently and nuzzles for more. Every day at feeding time she nuzzles and purrs happily. She would so love to have a home of her own where she could get more attention and love. She came from a place with several other cats, so we think she would do fine in a home with other cats. She has really warmed up nicely and learned to trust people. Shes a young cat, probably around 2 years old. Surely someone has room in their home and hearts for sweet Eve? (Also called Evie baby)
Pepper
Pepper is a young female who is likely not ever going to be a snuggly cat. She tolerates petting, but would prefer to have her own space. She will be an excellent mouser, and will happily share her home with other cats. She will likely come around with time, but will need someone patient. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines, deworming and flea/tick treatment.
Adoption fee: $150
Midnight
Midnight is still waiting for a quiet home where she can explore and seek you out for attention on her own terms. She will be a good mouser, and promises to be no trouble. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines, flea/tick treatment and deworming.
Adoption fee $150
Shadow is still here... he's waiting for his perfect human to come snatch him up. He is a bit shy at first but warms up quickly. Make sure your volume is up so you can hear his loud purr. 😻
Shadow would do best in a home with adults and older children who will be patient with him and let him have some space and time to warm up to them.
He is neutered and up to date on vaccines, flea/tick treatment and deworming.
His adoption fee is $150.00
Johnny Cash is still patiently waiting for his forever home. He LOVES head and chin scratches. Make sure your volume is up so you can hear his motor running! He's a big boy and very loving. He's super chill, not much phases him. Come meet him and see for yourself!
JC has been neutered, is up to date on vaccines and deworming as well as flea and tick treatment. He has so much love to give. Won't someone give him a chance at a home? 🐈⬛🖤
Adoption fee $150.00
(A kind soul has offered to pay his adoption fee for a senior looking for a companion that may not be able to afford the fee.)
We have 4 great cats here that are being vetted next week and will be up for adoption. They would love to have new homes for Christmas! Could one be a good fit for you? #adoptdontshop #AdoptAShelterPet #catsoffacebook #homelesscat
Been trying to catch her for 3 years. Multiple litters. She's finally been fixed and vaccinated and set free.
Mama's release this morning. ❤️
I kept her an extra day than originally planned because she woke up slow from anesthesia and hasn't had much of an appetite since then. I wanted to wait until her appetite came back and make sure she didn't have any complications. She was chomping at the bit this morning and back to her feisty wild self, so I knew it was time.
I loaded her up and headed to the place she has called home for the last several years. This sweet lady's name is Penny and she has taken care of Mama all this time, repeatedly tried trapping her, always provided food and fresh water every day... contacted me every time there were kittens and helped me trap them when they were old enough. She's an amazing woman and is the main reason why Mama was in such good health, because Penny took such good care of her! So when I got there this morning I told Penny I wanted her to have the honor of letting her go. 🥰
Look at how Mama looks up at Penny before running away, as if to say "thank you". 🫶🏼
Mama will never be a lap cat, she is wild and that's how she prefers to be. But she won't have to have litter after litter of kittens, she is vaccinated against diseases. And Penny will continue to provide food and water and shelter for her, just like she always has.
Be free Mama.
Free to live out life on your own terms. No more struggling to raise kittens outside. I know you know how to survive. And I know Penny will always keep your food dish full.
We love you Mama!
Zorro has been here for over a year and he was finally adopted yesterday! The same family that adopted Bilbo contacted me a couple days later and said they decided they wanted Zorro too. They realize he may not have a lot of years left but wanted him to be loved and have a family for however much time he has left. He's not in the best of health but he loves everyone and here he is enjoying his new forever home. ❤️
I am forever grateful to this wonderful family for adopting not just one, but TWO hard to place cats, and I know they will be loved and happy for the rest of their days!
I often get asked why my rescue is called "The Messenger Animal Rescue"... I've been helping animals pretty much my whole life but about 2-1/2 years ago an abandoned border collie found his way to me, and he was truly "the messenger". Because of him, other animals were saved, so when I decided to officially establish my nonprofit animal rescue, I named it after him, and that is why my logo is a border collie. Max is "the Messenger". Max was placed in a foster home who eventually decided to keep him forever. Here he is with a couple of his canine brothers, living his best life! About 9 years prior to me finding Max, I had rescued "Simon" from the same property. There have been dozens of others saved from the same place. 🥰🫶🏼
This is Journey. She is one of the feral kittens we had here recently. She was pretty spicy, but as you can tell by the video she has tamed up quite nicely, and here she is purring, happy as can be in her new home!
Ferals just take a little bit of patience but they are the best cats. They never forget that you saved them. 🖤
