📢Cat Food Recall Alert:📢 Northwest Naturals Turkey Cat Food has been recalled due to concern for H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza contamination. One cat has reportedly died from consuming this food which has been distributed in Pennsylvania. We have known since March of this year that cats can contract this flu strain and it appears that it has been primarily (if not exclusively) been through consuming raw/unpasteurized milk from affected dairy cows or consuming raw/contaminated meat.
🦠🦠🦠Blue Mountain Veterinary Care has always highly discouraged feeding any raw protein products including freeze-dried raw food, toppers and treats due to high risk for contaminations like these. 🦠🦠ðŸ¦

Since the U.S. outbreak of avian influenza A (H5N1) in dairy cattle began in March 2024, dozens of cats are known to have contracted the virus, including barn and feral cats, indoor cats, and big cats in zoos and in the wild (e.g., mountain lions, tigers, leopards, and bobcats).
