It's getting close to the end, with our Picture Pawfect Contest ending Tuesday, September 10th at 8pm. It's time to start rallying friends, family, and neighbors to get your favorites into the top 12! Remember: the top 12 will be featured in our 2025 calendar and receive an exclusive photoshoot with H. Forsyth Photography !

It's time to Clear the Shelters! Join us as we take part in the national initiative to find loving homes for as many companions as possible in one day. We are waiving all adoption fees on Saturday, September 7th from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.!

🚗 Shelter Skip Day Report 🚗

The word used most often to describe Haven is simply: sweet! And that she is! At 8 years old, this lady melts the heart of everyone she meets. She loved meeting all the kiddos in summer camp, enjoys getting out her zoomies, and lots of cuddles! Haven does need to be the queen of the castle (i.e. no other pets in the home) 👑 but this adorable pint-size hippo will give you all the love and fun you need.

Adoptable Oreo recently spent time in Skip Day buddy Tim's amazing back yard, which is a dog's dream! Said Tim:

“We spent about 2.5 hours with him in my backyard and, as you can see from the pics and videos, we all had an absolutely fantastic time together! He was very energetic and playful and he was extremely well mannered and affectionate with us even though he had never met or interacted with us before today. He was very relaxed with us and showed no signs of anxiety or nervousness. He really enjoyed the pool and with playing with all of the various toys that we got him engaged with and he interacted with us overall in a very positive manner. He did exhibit, once or twice, some over exuberance with us when he got over stimulated during play (which is not uncommon with a very young dog) but he responded very nicely and very quickly to a verbal correction each time which was awesome to see.

He is a very smart dog, full of love and affection, who is eager to play and eager to learn. He would be an awesome addition to the right family or person who is willing and able to provide him with the right amount of love, attention and guidance in order to help him fully develop into the very best dog that he can be!”

🐊 Meet Gator! 🐊

We would say he is popular with the ladies but truthfully, he is popular with everyone he meets. You can't help but stop and stare into his beautiful honey-colored eyes. He will dance around you in delight as you pet is soft, orange fur. Gator is a playful guy, and enjoys a friendly wrestling match with the other kitties in his condo. When he isn't playing or cat napping, he can be seen trying to hardest to catch the fish on our large fish tank.

🗓️ Mark Your Calendars: Saturday, September 7th from 11am-5pm is our Clear the Shelters Adoption Event!

At this adoption event, all adoption fees are waived. That's right, if the pet is available for adoption at HSHA on September 7, s/he is free! We hope you will join us in helping find homes for our residents on this special day!

Pets like Girlfriend will have their adoption fee waived. As one of our longest residents, Girlfriend would love nothing more than to finally have a home to call her own. At 70 pounds, she looks like a short little tank but her affectionate nature and beautiful eyes quickly win you over. This companion dog is ready to give love and comfort to any adopter!

At first meeting, Princess may come off as a shy and timid girl. However, it doesn't take long for her true personality to shine through. Once she relaxes, she enjoys the company of humans (adults and children alike). She also does well with other dogs - they help her break out of her shell. Princess is a real sweetheart that would love to be apart of your family!

Adoption Update: Deaf Pittie Nado was adopted by her new family a year ago, and she has transformed into a completely new dog!

Nado suffered from kennel-stress, didn't wag her tail, and didn't know how to play. Her new family took on a dog that needed a lot of training and love, but paw-rent Annette said it was all worth it.

"One year later Nado is housebroken, knows many sign language commands, plays with Bam Bam and humans, wags her tail constantly, is wonderful with the boys, and will crawl directly into your arms for cuddles. Nado, you are 99% muscle and 1% brain cell, but I love you 100% ❤️🐕‍🦺❤️"

Thank you to this amazing family for adopting Nado and giving her the best life!

🚗 Shelter Skip Day Report 🚗

Shiloh has been on a handful of field trips, and her report cards all come back with positive remarks! Her Skip Day Buddies say she energetic but well-behaved, very loving (she's all about giving kisses and wiggling her tail), and loves every human she meets (and they love her back)! Shiloh does need to be the queen of her castle (i.e. only pet in the home) but this social butterfly will give you all the love you could ever want from a pup!

Judge has been out for several field trips recently, and as one Skip Day buddy said: "Judge is a great balance of playful but calm companion. I think he is the perfect dog for someone who wants an outdoor activity partner, that will be a couch potato when you get home." -Laura

George has been enjoying his excursions outside of the shelter and meeting new friends! George can be initially shy when meeting new people but, as these photos show, it does not take him long to open up and begin showing his true fun-loving self! As one Skip Day buddy put it "George is truly an amazing dog. He could have the tendency to seem timid when you first meet him but with a little patience and a lot of love he opens right up."

Meet Dugg. He came to the shelter as a stray, so we don't know much about his past. What we can tell you is that this senior deserves the world. ❤️ He is appreciative of all the attention and love he receives from volunteers and staff. He is an easygoing guy who would love nothing more than a home and a family to spend his senior years with.

At about a year old, adoptable Bevis has spent half his life in the shelter. :( He is a fun-loving boy with a lot of energy. He needs an adopter that enjoys being active and understands Bevis needs enrichment to keep himself entertained. He loves to run, play, and hang with this favorite people!

This weekend, Kirk was adopted, and we made sure Kirk had a proper farewell! 👋 Kirk's adopter met Kirk a month ago but was in the process of moving and didn't feel it was the right time to bring a dog home. He kept an eye on our social media and website for weeks to see how Kirk was doing. As soon as he moved into his new home, he came back for Kirk and made it official. <3

Adoptable Zara is a lively adult dog with a heart full of joy. Her sweet and friendly nature is infectious, and she has a playful energy that can brighten up any room. She has a fondness for toys, whether it's a game of fetch or simply a chew toy to gnaw on. She also enjoys the company of her fellow canine friends, engaging in playful romps with them. Meet adoptable Sylvester! As soon as he looks up at you with his beautiful green eyes, you know you have no choice but to pet him. He loves attention, pushing his head into your hand, and appreciates a long stroke from the head to the base of the tail. He's an easy going guy that would love to meet you.
