While we wait on a 10am Amelia update (change of shift)..

Enjoy this new peanut we saved yesterday!

We believe kitty was dumped, as the baby is friendly with NO winter coat. This kitten would have frozen to death in this snow.

The finder was a 75 year old woman with severe lung issues - she couldn't be around animals at all. She looked out for kitty on her porch until I could get there!

This kitty is currently in a med pod under observation! Soon we will figure out the s*x, flea status, and learn more about temperament.

Welcome aboard, Cedar! πŸ’•

**Amelia Hospitalization Update #4**

SHE. HAS. MADE. SOLID. πŸ’©!!!!!

THIS. IS. HUGE. FOR. HER!

Doctor does believe she had an upper GI bleed which caused the anemia. It is starting to get under control with the medication - which is why we are finally seeing steady progress.

Her important numbers in the blood work are coming up and STAYING up! After her foster Mama visited, her spirits are up & she's eating better.

Dr. Z (whom we LOVE) suggested an extra overnight stay to continue monitoring her and giving her more IV antibiotics and fluids.

They have started treating her for parasites (worms) incase that's causing some of the issues as well.

More blood panels being run every 4-6 hours.

We will update in the AM, UNLESS we hear something urgent before then.

Keep her on your hearts!! This night will determine what happens in the coming days as far as hospitalization or home, goes!

Keep fighting on, Meelie girl! πŸ’•

**Amelia Hospitalization Update #3**

We busted in the hospital to visit our girl! πŸ’ͺ

Bloodwork is staying steady, her important number is now up to 23! That's GREAT news!

We will have a more informative update around 9pm - that's when we do the full blood panel.

Until then, enjoy Meelies in her cone looking beautiful & STRONG!! πŸ’•

*Amelia Hospitalization Update #2*

Her "important" number has gone from 19 to 22! That's a big deal!

She is eating tiny bits of a bland diet. She has not peed or pooped yet (normal for now), and she is very comfortable.

The nurse said she has been resting, but will go belly up every now & then for a rub. πŸ₯Ή

Her next full blood panel will be at 8pm, so the update won't be until late evening (bedtime for most), but I will post it!

Whatever you're doing, keep doing! Its working!

Shes still receiving IV fluid, antibiotics, anti-nausea etc., as well as pro-biotics & a few other things to make her strong!

Keep being brave, sweet girl... and FIGHT! πŸ‘ŠπŸ’—

*Amelia Hospitalization Update #1*

Last night Dr. Z started her shift as soon as we dropped Amelia off, and she wanted to run another blood panel lated in the evening to just keep an eye on certain levels in her blood before we started the transfusion.

She then began Amelia on a SLIGHT fluid drip, antibiotics & and anti-nausea medication (all via an IV) to get her started.

She. Began. To. Respond. To. The. Meds.

Her blood levels started to stabilize. They continued to routine bloodwork check her all night & into this morning.

Her. Red. Blood. Count. Started. To. Regenerate. WITHOUT. A. Transfusion!!!!!!

This is a MIRACLE. I am completely stumped as to how this is happening, but I do believe in the power of prayer & good vibes!!!!!!!

She will continue to be hospitalized, as they said she is not out of the woods yet, but this is FANTASTIC news for her first night there!

Please please PLEASE continue to hold her on your hearts & send well wishes/prayers for her; they are working!

I will update at the next blood check - this is usually every 6 hours!

**Update**

I've negotiated the new estimate to around $5,000.

This includes a discount that Shores gives us.

The doctor on for the night is going to be conservative with money as much as possible because we are a non-profit rescue. She will proceed slowly & only with consent from me.

We love & trust Shores completely and are so thankful for the incredible care and compassion they provide our rescue as a whole.

I promise to keep you all updated, as I am currently making a cup of coffee to stay up all night "on call."

A blood transfusion can take hours. We've done all we can. Now it's Amelia's time to fight.

Fight hard, sweet girl. We all love you SO much! πŸ’ͺπŸ’—

Jess

The news is not good.

Amelia needs a blood transfusion. Without it, she will die. Her PCV is 20, and should be 32+.

Shores is stumped, but her anemia is so severe that we can't even start to look for further without this transfusion.

We can't afford this without help. We are going to ask one more time and lean on you to see her through this. She needs these red blood cells.

She has fought so hard. Please help us help her. She deserves to live. πŸ’”

Amelia is at Shores. She is lethargic & not feeling well.

Please send love.

Everyone needs a Mr. Cheddar!

Our Handsome Foster Cheddar has been purring away as the Thoughtful Gardener has been sick over New Years.

Did you know that a cat purr produces vibrations at a frequency between 25 and 150 Hz. These frequencies are known to promote healing and regeneration in bones and tissues. Scientists believe that cat purring may be linked to the vibrations ability to stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms.

He will be available for adoption from Castaway Critters, The James A Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals soon!

Amelia is hard at work, makin' biscuits, as usual! πŸ₯– (Video in the comments!)

We have decided to host a fundraiser to benefit Amelia & other kitties that find themselves needing our rescue, in situations like our Meelie was.

"Amelia's Biscuit Makin' Sourdough & Soup Sale" is a reflection of just how important community relationships are.

Because each loaf is handmade and donated with love, no two are the same, similar to each rescue cat, being different, but requiring love.

This meal represents unity between communities & rescues. Together, we can share something warm & heartfelt while making a difference.

Please join me by having a meal in honor of all of the cats we intend to rescue with your help, and all of the cats we have saved, like our precious miracle, Amelia. Without your unwavering and continued support, we would never be able to do what we do.

Your support is the miracle that saves our animals in so many ways.

From the bottom of our hearts,

❀️ The Castaway Critters Team

NEW CRITTER ALERT!

10-month-old Chives is a super fun little dude! He loves to play with his feline housemates, but he also likes to curl up with them and his foster mom as well. Chives has a really cool story. One day, while his foster mom was at work, she opened up the front door of her office and he walked right in and made himself comfortable! Boy, did he pick the right door to walk into! Chives is very playful and can get a little vocal at breakfast time while he is waiting for his wet food! Chives is an all-around great young cat and will make a wonderful addition to almost any family.

If you are interested in adopting Chives, please go to www.CastawayCritters.org/adopt to submit an application.

‼️Please help us stock our pantry so we can continue focusing on critical care intakes like Amelia & cats that are being thrown outside during these winter months needing shelter, like Chives.‼️

We have 2 bags of litter & 1 case of canned cat food left on our foster pantry shelf. πŸ™€

We NEED donations to get through the next few months. Stocking up on our medications has taken priority, and they are very costly! πŸ’‰

Please consider sending us something, we will appreciate ANYTHING. πŸ™
