OHS Policies
Adoption Policy: The adopted pet must be unconditionally loved and given a good home. Arkansas State law requires that all adopted pets must be neutered before being placed in the new home. The adoption fee will include the veterinary charges for this surgery. Adoption Fees: A

Persons adopting animals from the Shelter must agree to the following:

I (we) acknowledge adoption of the above described animal and agree to the following conditions:

1. To care humanely, feed properly, provide clean, fresh water daily, and provide comfortable sleeping quarters.
2. To not keep the dog tied or chained up outside after the first 2 weeks, unless the restraint system is designed so that the dog has adequate exercise room, free access to water and shelter at all times, and cannot become entangled in the equipment.
3. That the animal will receive regular veterinary care, including annual rabies and distemper combination vaccines.
4. That the Ozark Humane Society may examine or inquire about this animal at any time, and if not satisfied with the conditions under which it is kept, or the animal has not been spayed or neutered according to this contract, may enter upon my premise and take the animal and such entry shall not constitute trespass.
5. The Ozark Humane Society tries to place animals of good health and disposition as will make a satisfactory pet, but cannot guarantee the health or disposition of any adopted animal or be responsible for any subsequent medical expenses or personal / property damage inflicted by this animal.
6. I (we) do not own any interest in this animal until (s)he is spayed or neutered and released by OHS. Spay/Neuter Policy: If your pet is not already spayed/neutered, the surgery will be scheduled as soon as possible. Spay/Neuter surgery must be done before you take your pet home. You may pick up your pet following surgery. If the pet you select is too young to spay or neuter, it must remain at the shelter until spayed or neutered. Contact:

UPDATE..! UPDATE..! We are pleased to share with you that the elderly little Chihuahua is now safe at home!
Thank you all for your love and your interest in this little dog's well being.
We need your help please! This sad elderly Chihuahua was brought to our shelter by a person that found the dog running down Highway 65 near the Walmart in Harrison. We know this dog is someone's pet and are hoping that the dog might be recognized from this picture. Perhaps the Chihuahua belongs to an individual that does not have access to social media or means to get in touch with us. We are seeking volunteers to help at our Cause for Paws Thrift Store! Our thrift store is the main source of funding for running our no-kill shelter. Volunteers organize, price, and put out merchandise for sale, check customers out, keep the store tidy and organized, and more. They are a vital to our success, and you can be part of it!

Talk to our store manager for details. She is available Tuesday through Saturday during store hours. The store is located at 201 E. Crandall Avenue in Harrison.

This handsome boy is Tarzan. He is 3 years old, about 50 pounds and loves all people. He has been at the shelter with us for a while, because he definitely needs to be the only dog in the home. Tarzan is a sweetheart with people, but is just not a fan at all of other dogs. If you only have room for one, he may be the perfect dog for you. Come meet Tarzan, or share if you can.

Please join us in a big THANK YOU to each of the young ladies in the Miss Harrison Roundup Club Queen Pagent. These seven young people came out to our shelter and walked with our dogs and played with our cats, both incredibly important for socializing our pets, making them more adoptable. Check this out..! Our summer project is rolling forward at remarkable speed. Our super volunteer, Margaret and her brother, Bill have been at the shelter every morning early, removing the rotten roof decking, decaying rafters and ceiling joists on the other side of our "Puppy Quarantine" area. The new door and water resistant interior panels are going up and the fresh floor paint will soon follow. Thank you Margaret and Bill for all the effort, time and work with this much needed repair.!

We want to say Thank YOU to Arvest volunteers, Abbie and Terri who came to our shelter on a very warm morning to walk our dogs. With their help we were able to walk all our dogs before the temperature climbed too high..and clearly, Mickey and Patouli both enjoyed their time getting petted and walked! All her puppies found homes months ago, and Tonks is ready to go home too! Tonks is a sweetheart with a heart of gold. She thrives on affection and loves nothing more than snuggling up with her favorite humans. Incredibly loyal and likely to form a strong bond with her people, making her the ultimate companion for someone seeking a devoted furry friend. The maintenance of our shelter has been lacking in years past. Each summer we try to correct these major maintenance problems with the help of donations, fundraisers and grant dollars. We are asking for your donation to help us with this summer’s project. Late last year we discovered a hidden leak in the roof on the addition to our remodeled office building. This leak has rotted major structural members such as roof decking, joists and walls to this part of the building. This is our puppy and kitten quarantine space, so it is very important and needs to be repaired as soon as possible. We are working on the job now as time is of the essence. We are doing half of the addition at a time as the rooms are still in use. Look at the pictures below and see how our team is progressing. Thank you for any donation you can afford to help us fund this major renovation.

Bobo

#WooferWednesday Bobo is a 4 year old female red heeler mix. She is house trained and loves to play fetch. She is a little shy at first but very sweet once you get to know her. Please come meet Bobo, or share if you can.

Last Friday, Tracy our friend from the Turquoise Pooch Paw Spa, stopped by the shelter to meet our oldest, long term dog, Miney. Miney had a rough life prior to coming to our shelter with her brother, Meeny. Both were abused severely and were frightened and aggressive. Our shelter gave them a home, and our staff and volunteers have given them love and walks. Over the years both dogs mellowed, especially Miney. We lost Meeny recently and Tracy heard Miney's story when her team of groomers gave Miney her first ever Spa Day. Miney LOVED it! Tracy has since taken the big step of giving Miney her long sought Forever Home. Miney will now be the Turquoise Pooch Paw Spa mascot dog.! Word has it she is loving her new job! Thank you Tracey and Turquoise Pooch team for giving out Miney a chance!

#WooferWednesday May I introduce Dwayne? Dwayne is our longest dog resident having been with us at the Ozark Humane Society since April 2014. He is a 15 year old mixed breed hound dog that has spent many years waiting to be adopted. We have never given up hope. Why has Dwayne been with us so long? Dwayne needs time to get to know new people, and his adoptive family will need to visit him more than once. But once one of ‘his people’ out at the shelter introduces you he will accept you. He is fearful , but not aggressive, barking from his kennel and cowering when new people come near. As you can see once he gets to know you, Dwayne has a lot of love to give. Please consider giving Dwayne a home, or sharing to help him find one.
