We want to involve the community in our efforts to care for the animals. We WANT and NEED Volunteers - to walk the dogs, play with the cats, foster animals until we find a permanent home for them, help with fundraisers and adoption events, cleaning cat cages at the Muncie PetSmart, caring for the animals at the shelter. We are ALWAYS in need of items such as bleach, pine sol, laundry detergent, dish soap, paper towel, trash bags, scoopable litter, toys for cats and dogs, metal food bowls, blankets, towels, sheets, pillow cases, snacks for the animals, and really anything that you would use for your pets at home! Monetary donations and gift cards are great as well. We are an adoption partner with PetSmart. We attend adoption events at Muncie, Fort Wayne (Marysville Road), Carmel, and Noblesville PetSmart locations. We are very rescue friendly and are grateful to the rescues in their efforts to help us with our animals. We do require a signed contract with the rescues we work with. We are located at 2520 N. 200 E. Hartford City. The shelter is staffed seven days a week. However, we are closed to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays. Hours for the 5 other days of the week are 10:30-12:30 and 4:30-6:30. Appointments for hours outside of these times and days can also be made! After hours please leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Emergency ONLY please call the Blackford County Sheriff Department at 765-348-0930.

Kelli is a serious kitten when she wants to be but deep down she is a pussycat. She is 7 months old and does have a soft side. She is cuddly and affectionate. She may be a common brown tabby but she is a proud brown tabby. She stands tall and bold.

My name is Heihei and I am a lucky cat. I came to the shelter as a sickly boy but I have come a long way with my healing and this month I was healthy enough to be vetted so I can be adopted. I am still healing from some wounds but it is very minimal at this point. I am a gorgeous boy with my one blue eye and white coat. I am a friendly dude that just wants a home that will keep me safe, healthy and provide unconditional love. I am 2 years old and never want to live the street life again.

Hello everyone! My name is Donnie. I am just a pup and not exactly sure how I ended up in this predicament but I am still happy and playful! My name is Gremlin and I will show off for attention. I came to the shelter with a large group of kittens. I was just a young lad myself. Over the course of a year of being at the shelter I lost an eye due to infection. I am healed and ready to be scooped up and given the life I so desperately want. My name is Izzy and I am one gorgeous pup. When I am happy my ears go a little wonky or maybe it means I am kinda listening to you, and kinda not! I have a lot of energy and would love a family that is active and will spend time with me. I can jump a short fence so a 6 foot fence would be ideal. Long walks on a leash is also a great way for me to exercise if a fence is not an option. I am good with kids and all people but I tend to start fights with other pets so I would do best in a home with no other animals. I am crate trained and house trained and I do pretty well on a leash with a halter. I am active and goofy girl and deep down I just want to have fun and I love to smile. I am around 1.5 years old and 41 lbs.
