Brooklyn's Dog Boutique, founded in Lima, Ohio, was inspired by our pitbull Brooklyn. Brooklyn came into our lives November 19th 2018 when she was 4 weeks old and she has been wrapped around our finger ever since. Her story alone is what inspired us to start a store in her name!
Here's Brooklyn to share her story..
Hi my name is Brooklyn and I am currently 2 years old. I was born with deformed rear legs and because of the severe curve of my legs my knee caps were permanently dislocated. I didn't start showing signs that they were messed up until I was about 4 months old and I would start walking and just collapse. The pain was getting so bad that I would just drag my rear legs behind me. My mommy and daddy were so concerned that we got an appointment to see my vet. At first glance my vet thought I was paralyzed but after doing x-rays she could see my knee caps were dislocated and referred me to one of the top orthopedic surgeons in Ohio. After meeting him the only fix was to undergo surgery. So in December 2019 I had both legs performed at the same time. I was recovering quickly and within a month I was back up and walking, still couldn't do much running or do stairs but I was progressing like I should. Until about March my pawrents noticed I wasn't wanting to use my legs again. So off to my surgeon I went and one of my pins was migrating in there so I had to undergo surgery again to get my pin removed and he also noticed I was starting to form arthritis in both legs. Unfortunately my surgeon predicts that I will be fully crippled by the time I'm middle aged. My pawrents didn't take this news very well so they are trying everything they can to prolong my legs. So my pawrents had custom knee braces made from Animal Ortho Care to help stabilize my legs. They bought me a pool for the summer so I can get low impact exercise and I'm on a very strict diet that does not contain any food that can or may cause inflammation. I also get snacks throughout the day that can or may reduce inflammation. I also get joint and pain management chews everyday and I also get CBD everyday. I went from hardly being able to get out of bed, stiff mornings and barely about to go outside to go potty. To now I feel like a normal pup again. My pawrents are still preparing for the worst outcome so they have decided to start this business to fund my future and help other dogs going through the same thing.
