We had to throw away one of our cat towers from the outdoor enclosure because it was falling apart. Although it had been gently used, it lasted us a long time!

Amazon is currently having a sale on these cat towers, and I’m sure the kitties will appreciate it!

Thank you so much for your continued support 🐾

After being here since June of last year, Ajax is finally getting his freedom ride. Apparently he took his chance to make an impression on the Mehm’s while they were here working on the shelter and they decided he must come home to them. We cant think of a better place for him to lay his head forever. Thank you.

He got picked up early by our friend who took him for a bath and a bit of spoiling before his roadtrip up to Prattville.

Here’s some pics of his time spent with us.

Becoming an Eagle Scout is no easy feat. The requirements for these young men to achieve this title are something that would dissuade most. One of those requirements is a service project. The scout is required to plan, develop, and execute a project that is beneficial to an organization outside of the scouts. We were fortunate enough to be the recipient of such a gesture.

Aidan Mehm of Troop 617 is responsible for this new structure we have at the rescue. He along with his Father and a few fellow scouts made multiple trips from Prattville to bring Aidan’s vision to life. They braved the heat, bugs, and occasional puppy between the legs to get it done. While many kids there age would be at home playing video games, these young men were putting in work.

The craftsmanship is extraordinary and beyond what we expected. When he asked, the only request I had of Aidan was to construct something to help the pups stay cool in the summer and out of the elements. I wanted him to have the liberty to create. What you see is his interpretation of that.

What I’m truly appreciative of is the fact that Troop 617 is headquartered in Prattville. Aidan could’ve easily found something more convenient for his project. Over the course of months, he could’ve changed his mind. His perseverance to help us is a testament to his character and that of his fellow scouts.

If you’re the kind of person who sifts through resumés, don’t gloss over the achievement of being an Eagle Scout. It’s much more than campfires, merit badges, and a hand gesture. It’s an achievement in excellence and worthy of praise.

One of Aidan’s fellow scouts also constructed a bat house for us to put in the rescue. This is something we’ve looked forward to for some time as we love bats and have quite a few here.

Thank you, Aidan and Troop 617.

“Be Prepared.”

Unfortunately, our newest rescue did not make it. We were hoping to get him to the vet but he passed before we could make it. Thank you all for your support. 🙁

We picked this poor fella up around midnight last night at Mr. Henry’s. Despite his appearance, he is incredibly sweet, purring as I carried him to the car. He’s got a bad skin infection, likely demodex mange by the look of it as well as all the other common ailments strays get. This is where we could use your help.

Bills are piling up quickly. We have one dog going through heartworm treatment to the tune of $800. We have over a dozen kittens and cats in need of fixing and now this guy. Full disclosure, we were well into the red long before we took this guy in but leaving him wasn’t an option.

I know all rescues tend to march to the same tune of financial struggle but it’s real. Especially when there’s no support from the state and local governments. Money, or lack thereof, is the critical thing that allows us to help the community. We take zero income for ourselves and dump every dime into the animals. Food and medical care is the number one cost, with cleaning supplies and building supplies close behind.

Sorry for the long winded post but we really want to continue helping the community but we need the community to help us. Anything helps. If you wish to buy food or items directly for us, please view our wishlists. We use Jeffer’s in Dothan for vaccine purchases where we can buy in bulk if you wish to help with medical supplies. Or you can donate directly.

Thank you all! (We are a 501c(3) non-profit. All donations are tax-deductible with receipts available on request.)

August 26th is National Dog Day! Be sure to give your canine friends the love and appreciation they deserve! Here’s a glow up of my goofy boy Recker who we ended up keeping after rescuing him. He reminds me so much of Titan.

The new residents have settled in and gotten accustomed to the routine. Still battling a couple upper respiratory infections but everyone is putting on weight and worm-free. They dont all have names but most do. If you have any ideas, let us know below the picture.

August 8th is International Cat day! Lord knows we love cats, especially our own (like Sue the T-Rex here).

Did you know it’s estimated that domesticated cats are believed to be responsible for contributing to the extinction of over 60 species worldwide. This is largely due to overpopulation and lack of resources.

Please know that if you start feeding a feral cat, it’s almost guaranteed they will start multiplying once they realize you’re a new steady source of food, especially expectant mothers. And that’s when the kitty distribution system will really start kicking your butt. If you feed them, be willing to fix them please. If you have a feral colony and need resources or guidance on how to manage them through humane methods such as TNR, please reach out.

Thanks for your support.

It has been a while since we have done a rescue of this size. 14 Cats and kittens we took in today. All in varying degrees of health. Three of them are mommas that have had litters recently. The kittens range in age from 4-8 weeks. Unfortunately there were even more when we went out to this house a week and a half ago, but nature was taking its toll.

The family who was taking care of them became quickly overwhelmed by dumped pregnant mommas on their property. They were doing everything they could but we knew we had to help. We didn’t even take all of the cats on the property, just the ones we have space we can put them in for now.

We are hoping to keep them supplied with food and help get the remaining cats plus the ones we took in fixed. The surgery by itself costs between 70-85$ per cat based on gender. We are looking at $1200-1500 for that alone. Add vaccines and food to that and you can see very quickly why it’s hard to do this type of work.

If you would be willing to help us get the care for these animals and help a family who has already done so much, please consider donating. You can also purchase items directly on our wishlists. We certainly appreciate all the support and will keep everyone aware of the progress.

P.S. A special shoutout to the Faulkner Family and Joe Mesher who, for months, have silently support us with monthly donations via donorbox!
