I hope everyone has a relaxing and fun Labor Day Weekend.

Quick reminder, this weekend gives those evil fire cracker people a reason to light up the neighborhood. Just like July 4th, please exercise extreme caution with your hounds. Here are a couple of suggestions:

-make sure all outdoor activities are done earlier in the day, not at night
-if required, medicate your hound prior to the first boom-booms
-charge your FiCollars (or whatever GPS collar you use)
-if you need to let your hound out and they are nervous, put them on a leash in your backyard

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone. Reminder there may be fireworks so be sure to hold leashes tight and go out into fenced areas with your dogs each and every time in case of an unexpected “boom”.

Happy HoliGREYS GRRers and friends,
I can’t believe how fast the year has flown by.
Today is a day of reflection for me. This year was full of excitement and challenges but in many ways, fun too!
The Year in Review!
We made 7 trips to Cross Lanes WV and in 2 vans transported over 70 hounds back to CT/NY. Keep in mind, from my house to Cross Lanes is close to 600 miles so 1200 miles round trip!
3 of us took a very special trip driving 2 hounds across the country all the way to Bozeman, MONTANA, where they were placed with an adopter who used to live in CT. That was a 4400-mile round trip. The hounds, Dudley & Tweety, were perfect traveling companions.
We fought a good fight for Justice for Midnite, the greyhound adopted through GRR found starved and abused. To all who followed his story, he’s happy & thriving, living in upstate CT with other hounds and a wonderful family. GRR still provides food & any medical care he needs.
Our medical bills totaled over $82,000 this past year, including some general vetting ie: spays, neuters, dentals, etc but most of it went to pay for repairing injured hounds. GRR stands by our mission statement. We won’t say no to any hound in need, including a litter of greyhound pups who, at a very young age, got Parvo. The ladies who own the greyhound breeding farm are good friends and keep all their pens immaculate. How these pups got Parvo is still a mystery to all the vets involved but with GRR’s help, they all survived the terrible disease and have grown to be happy, healthy, well-adjusted dogs.
Without your support, GRR couldn’t do what we are known for and that’s making sure every hound has a 2nd chance to run, just for fun. If you haven’t made a donation we hope you will through Zeffy (no fees involved) on our website www. https://greyhoundrescuerehab.org/donate/
As an aside, I urge you to invest in the FiCollar for your hounds. AirTags show general location but the FiCollar works with GPS so you’ll know exactly where they are IF they manage to get loose.
May you & yours have a wonderful holiday season & we wish you peace, health & happiness for 2025.
For the hounds,
Christine

Many, if not most, of the Greyhound Community have seen the photo created by the Greyhound Channel with Carlos, the greyhound, taking on a cheetah. We've all heard that the greyhound is the fastest accelerating land animal on earth second only to the cheetah. But in an actual race what does the science say about the outcome?

Dr. Stanley Coren will tell you that the victor will not be the cheetah. So will the College of Veterinary Science at the University of Minnesota. In fact, science based anything will tell you in this race, the greyhound will prevail. But wait, how can that be? Anatomy and physics have the answer: in an actual trip around the oval, the cheetah will start out faster, without a doubt, because their starting acceleration rate is at about 60 mph, with the greyhound coming in initially at about 45mph. However, after about 15 seconds into the race, the cheetah runs out of gas and the greyhound easily leaves him eating sand.

Hello friends,
May I ask your support for Mr. M aka Midnite by signing this petition?
It costs nothing, takes only a moment of your time and please make a comment. The court date is set for July 29 in Torrington CT and we want the judge to know the greyhound community is standing proud with Midnite. Thank you!
