💜NEW PUPPY OWNERS SHARE!!💜
✨✨Did you get a new puppy over Christmas or thinking about getting a new puppy?✨✨
It’s time to start getting them scheduled for puppy trims or start thinking about it!
I HIGHLY recommend starting them out as early as 8 weeks old!
✨Why you might ask?
The grooming process can be very scary and stressful to puppies when they first start. They need to learn that it’s not a bad thing but a “spa day” as I like to call it. There’s ALWAYS something in the process that they might not like. Whether it’s the water, dryer, brushing, nail clipping, sound and vibration of the clippers, or the shears.
If we force your puppy when they’re not ready, it can be very traumatic and lead to them not liking the grooming process, your baby being sent home half groomed, or worst case an incident could happen.
You do NOT want to wait until they are 4 months + and start their grooming then and expect them to get a full groom the first time. It’s not fair to them nor your groomer.
I always recommend scheduling puppy trims every 3-4 weeks until they’re ready for their full groom. Some puppies are ready after the first and some unfortunately are not ready until they have had a few trims.
✨What comes in a trim?
For each groomer it’s different. For me, they will get their paw pads shaved, feet trimmed, sanitary trim, nail trimming, ear cleaning and plucking, and cleaning up around their eyes. Sometimes if they’re really good, I try to shear of the face some too!
No hair will come off the body UNLESS they are absolutely ready!
The whole process teaches them about the sounds, vibrations, table manners, and it helps us groomers create a bond with them!
✨How can you prepare your puppy for their trim at home?
Brushing them daily will help them learn that it will not hurt them. Also, going back over them with a comb. It also helps you and the groomer out to prevent matting.
If you have anything that vibrates like a electric toothbrush, beard trimmer, regular clippers: turn the item on (flip it around if it’s clippers or a trimmer) and rub it on your puppy. Mainly focus on the legs, around the ears, and face. These are the parts that puppies hate the most and while these items have different sounds than our grooming clippers, it still prepares them.
✨ Choose a groomer you LOVE
As much as I would love to have you and your fur baby as a client, I just want you to find someone that you trust and love to take care of your baby. Find someone you really, really love and STICK with them! It creates a unbreakable bond between your fur baby and the groomer. Your fur baby will ALWAYS look forward to their spa day knowing who their groomer is.
✨ I know this is a lot of information but this will help you, your puppy, and your groomer (whoever you choose) when it’s time to start grooming.
So please, SHARE this information with all your friends!
