Our annual reminder:

BABY COPPERHEAD SEASON from NOW THROUGH NOVEMBER

It's baby copperhead season! Copperheads like damp areas, so watch around toys, dog bowls, flower pots, etc. They are great at hiding in plain sight, and blend in well with falling leaves.

Wear closed shoes out in the grass in case you step on one. They are tiny, but they can inject a larger dose of venom than adults because they lack the control of the adults.

The copperhead snake head is indeed a coppery, reddish-brown color with some dots on the top. The snake's triangle-shaped head is large in proportion to its narrower neck. Copperheads are bulky snakes and reach up to about 3 feet in length in maturity. Their eyes have slit-like pupils similar to cat's eyes. Copperheads have a distinct hourglass pattern that runs perpendicular from their spine. Baby copperheads have a yellow- to- green tail tip.

Remember to look before you pick things up outside! Keep yourself, your family safe and your pets safe.

I agree with crate training. 🐾
Dogs were originally den dwellers and they feel safe in a crate. ❤️

Did you know that Animal Control Services see a 30% increase in lost pets from July 4th - July 6th?

With the 4th of July on the horizon, humans are getting ready to enjoy fireworks and summer vibes. For our four-legged friends, this time may not be as exciting. Fireworks are loud and may trigger your pup's fight or flight response.

If you haven't already, please contact your veterinarian on appropriate medications to help your pet be safe!

As we approach warmer weather, I'd like to share some information about heat stroke and warning signs of getting over-heated. Brachycephalic breeds like the Boston Terrier tend to not tolerate the heat as well as some other breeds are able to.

Here are some tips:
•If it's 70°F or warmer outside, do not leave your dog outside for more than 10-15 minutes depending on their comfort/tolerance level. You're also better off leaving them at home if you need to go somewhere. Unless you're going to a dog-friendly, air-conditioned place.
•To cool your dog down fast, put their paws in water and wet their underside as well (belly, under arms/legs, under the chin). Use cool water only!
•Do NOT give ice or use ice water to cool your dog down when they've over-heated, this can cause shock!
•The use of a pool can be implemented in order to keep them cooled down while they're outdoors. It can also be fun exercise to swim or play in the water! Not a water dog? Then maybe stick to the 70° rule.
•As always, make sure to provide plenty of fresh, cool water and shade to help prevent your furry friends from getting too hot.
•We have a Splash Pad all of our dogs will lay on to cool themselves down when hot this may be something useful for families. As always use your best judgement on when it's time for them to take a break and cool down before playing some more. 🐾
