Telling the Bees.

Telling the bees is a Western European tradition in which bees are told of important events, including deaths, births, marriages and departures and returns in the keeper's household. If the custom was omitted or forgotten and the bees were not "put into mourning" then it was believed a penalty would be paid, such as the bees leaving their hive, stopping the production of honey or dying. Why not to buy “southern nucs”.

Unlike cattle or other live stock, bees can be shipped across state lines without very much or any regulation in terms of disease or pests. Ever hear of small hive beetles? They don’t survive winter in the NE, so where do they come from? Southern nucs and packages of bees.

Our nucs are maintained in an apiary that is free from SHB because WE RAISE BEES HERE, in a sustainable apiary.

We also back up what we sell. We guarantee that we will work with our customer to ensure success. We keep nucs in reserve to specifically make sure we can ‘fix’ common issues.

Question about Cart Path Farm nucs….are you over wintered nucs 5 frames in December?

Nope. That is not the best way to over winter in New England. Our OVERWINTERED nucs are maintained as 5x5 nucs. A 10 frame deep with a follower board down the middle. Two independent queens, one in each half. These hives are maintained in this configuration and have a second or third layer added well before winter. These are 8 or 10 frame vertcle nucs. Huge little hives!

In the spring, we take the queen, 2 frames brood, 2 frames resources and 1 frames foundation and let the bees go to work. We then assess the laying pattern again before transferring to our customer.

These are our over wintered nucs.

Price is $200. In an effort to continue our commitment to sustainability we are offering $20 refunds for customers that return the boxes.
