Colic is the #1 cause of death in horses. The decision to pursue surgery often comes down to cost, but Tennessee Equine Hospital’s Promise Program removes that burden. With your enrollment, you protect your horse while helping our team ensure no family has to face that decision alone.

For 15 years, the Promise Program at Tennessee Equine Hospital has been saving horses’ lives. More than 75 horses have received life-saving colic surgery through this program, and today, over 1,000 horses are enrolled. Now, we’re relaunching with exciting updates, and we want your horse to be protected, too.

With recent EHV-1 cases confirmed in Texas and Oklahoma, we want to keep our community informed. There are currently no known EHV-1 cases in Tennessee, and Tennessee Equine Hospital does NOT have a positive case.

Our team is monitoring the situation closely and is here to support you and your horses with any questions or concerns. We’ve included important info in the graphics above on what EHV-1 is, what to watch for, quarantine guidance, vaccination reminders, and recommendations for upcoming rodeo events. Swipe through to read!

If you have concerns about possible exposure or symptoms, please call your veterinarian right away. Your vigilance helps keep the entire horse community safe.

As temperatures drop, here are 5 quick winter prep tips for your horse:

•Ensure fresh, unfrozen water at all times — heated buckets or water tank heaters help encourage drinking and prevent impaction colic.
•Increase forage – Horses generate heat through digestion, so offer plenty of hay to help them stay warm and maintain weight.
• Check blankets daily for fit, dryness and comfort.
• Monitor weight & hydration – Cold weather can mask weight loss and reduced water intake. Check frequently and adjust nutrition as needed.
•Provide shelter & wind protection –
Wind breaks, run-in sheds, and proper bedding help horses conserve body heat and stay comfortable.
