Sad note but with a happy twist....Another Maddy's child has passed on. Duke was always happy wherever he was. Since we closed up business over two years ago, we have mostly lost contact with our regular puppies. About a month ago, while out checking yard sales , we visited this wonderful family's yard sale, and, actually got to see Duke. It was a great surprise for us. His family told us they thought he was pretty close to the end of life from just old age.
Duke and his late sister, Callie, began coming to us in 2015. Duke was very comfortable at Maddy's. We looked forward to seeing his humans, too. RIP, Big Boy. Prayers to the family and to Duke's sis, Crazy Daisy.

Anniversaries are special. Some remind us of the happy moments. Others remind us of the sad ones. We are marking the 5 year anniversary of the passing of one of Maddy's most beloved characters. Remembering our Sultan, on this day, 5 years since his passing. Thanks for the laughter and the love we got from knowing you...

Hope everyone had a fine father's day. We miss our fathers in Heaven.

Some SAD news to report.
One of our Wallace's favorite buddies and a Maddy's old timer, Tex, died Sunday just short of his 16th birthday. We used to refer to him as "Humper" for obvious reasons. He and Wallace loved to play together. We know that Wallace was happy to see him again. Prayers to his family. RIP, little man.

Remembering our boy, Wallace. We had to let you go 6 years ago, May 30th, after the butcheress of Franklin, TN destroyed your liver. We took you there to give you more time but she killed you instead. RIP.

Another Maddy's child has been called home. Sadie, aka "Grinner," passed away this past Friday. She was "14 3/4," her mom says. Cause of her passing was kidney disease. We could always get a grin accompanied by a good wiggle from Sadie and got a good laugh out of it. We nicknamed her Grinner, and she responded to it. She was a character. Sadie and sister, Sami, were both frequent guests and great boarders. Sister Sami passed away just a few months ago. They are now together again. They both lived good lives. Prayers for her family. RIP, GRINNER.

Four years ago today, your eyes told us you were ready to go. You wanted to go be with your brother, Wallace, who had left us 18 months before. We knew it would be selfish to hold on to you for our sake. Your mind was good, but your body had given up. Your world had gone silent. Your 15 1/2 years with us were amazing. Since the first day we spotted you among the many puppies at the Huntsville Humane Society, we knew you were the one for us. You inspired us to begin the business that carried your name, and you worked that business right alongside us for going on 14 years.
As we gaze through your pictures, we still cry for you, and, for Wallace.
Those were the best of times. RIP, Baby Girl.
Love, Mom and Dad

A short note for the passing, this morning, of a great girl, Macy. She and brother, Max, were frequent flier boarders since 2012. Cause of her death, complications from multiple lymphoma tumors that were causing her excessive pain. She was 16. Macy was the calm family balance of her brother, Max's craziness. We enjoyed seeing them. We are confident she had a great long life. Her Mom, Brekke, and Dad, Baron, were a couple of our favorite humans. RIP. Prayers for mom, dad, and brother, Max.

Sad news to report. Perhaps Maddy's greatest athlete of all time has passed away from lung cancer. He was let go and took his last breath, in his favorite place, his backyard, by a mobile vet. I believe he was about 11 or 12.
He was the ultimate ball player. You can see, by the pictures, he was a champion. He would drool so much while retrieving, the ball would splat down when he dropped it in front of you for the next throw. He was also a loyal run along for his dad when he jogged. He was a loyal daycare member for many, many years. He's was preceded in death by his sister, also a Maddy's family member, Klieko. RIP, "Coop". Prayers for his Dad, Kevin, Mom, Susan. I know they will miss that loyal companionship.

We have another "anniversary" of sadness to mention. Sultan has been gone 4 years now. Firstly, we loved, pretty much, all of our Maddy's family dogs over our 13 plus years in business but Sultan was the most special. We got him when he was already into his senior years. Stubborn, even a bit angry sometimes. I tell the story that when he first came to us, I had him just outside our kennel back door. Every time I would walk another, arriving regular dog past him just out of his reach to the play area, he would lunge at it growling. I said to Barb, that new dog is a real a # . Something still told me, he wasn't bad, just misunderstood, so we kept him for boarding. He was amazing. He was always daring you to love him, which made us love him even more. He loved to be chased. His failing eyesight made running and jumping a real challenge. He mainly had depth perception problem, causing him to jump too soon or too late over any obstacles. He might crash but always popped up without missing a beat. You would try and hug him or kiss him and, in return, get gummed with his mostly toothless face. We laughed so hard at his antics. We cried when he left us. Some of the pictures below, are courtesy of his amazing, loving parents, Candy and Michael Estrada. We thank them for bringing him into our lives.
RIP, old man.
Thanks for the memories. We will never forget you.

Repeating a post from 3 years ago on the anniversary of her passing....

Devastating news delivered our way this morning...
One of our longest daycare dogs has passed away. Ellie Grace, aka "Chocolate" died last night at her mother's side. She was only 9 years old. Ellie had been ill recently, the actual cause unknown. Mom was keeping us up to date on her symptoms and her status since she started feeling ill about 3 weeks ago. Her Doctor has been doing multiple rounds of tests to try and determine the cause of her symptoms. She actually had a liver biopsy scheduled for this coming Monday. UPDATE..copper storage disease was the cause.
Ellie was laying outside in the grass last night, mom laying with her, talking to her, asking her to hold on, when she took her last breath. The ending was not expected. They had hoped one more test on Monday would find the cause and lead to treatment. The doctor was so taken back by the news of Ellie's sudden passing, a free autopsy was offered and accepted to seek the answers to the mystery. Mom says maybe an autopsy will solve the questions and lead to another dog being diagnosed and treated. We will pass those results on when we get them.
Chocolate, as we affectionately called her (and she allowed it), has been coming to us since September 27th, 2011. She was one of our best ball players. Very smart, so much so, if she would feel that another dog was going to beat her to the ball, she would stop and return for the next throw. I would toss a special one her way as often as I could fool the rest of the players. She knew my plan too and would watch as the others chased one ball while I threw another the opposite direction that she would get. One of the most loving dogs that visited us, we were sure to get a hug every time she arrived. She also had the talent for using her paw to reach and pluck cookies off our counter. Many of you witnessed her doing so. Her very first visit here, her mother asked us to keep an eye on her that day as she had taken an entire bag of mini chocolate donuts off the kitchen counter and eaten them all just that morning. She was our Crazy Chocolate.
I (Mike) was able to go and see her this morning to say my goodbye. Thanks, Kora, for allowing me, in your grief, to see Ellie one last time. Ellie was that special and deserved it. We will miss her smiling Chocolate face and sassy personality.

We still think of you. We still grieve for you. You were that special. Prayers to mom on this sad anniversary.
