Preparation for Pets and July 4th! Now is the time to start preparing and be sure you have all things you need to make your pet comfortable during fireworks.

~If your pet has anxiety or sensitivity to noise-call your Vet NOW so they are ready come July
~Order that Thundershirt
~Be sure all ID tags are up to date and legible OR get an ID tag if you do not have one
~Update microchip information or schedule an appointment to get your pet microchipped
~Restock your natural calming remedies
~Check your fencing and fix any broken areas (this should be done regularly as fencing can break or come down anytime)
~Be sure your ambient noise devices are working and ready to go-fans, AC, television, radio or noise machine.

Now is also a great time to start building confidence, better association with the noise of fireworks and desensitizing. Play Youtube videos of fireworks SOFTLY and reward your pet while listening, engaging with positive fun things. Give them yummy treats and work your way to being able to play while listening and also giving treats periodically. Over time you can increase the volume, but be sure to reward when you increase. This may be too much for some dogs, so be sure to pay attention to your dogs body language and do not overwhelm them.
