Farmers are hard at work preparing for planting season. This means farming equipment is traveling from field to field on the roads. Drivers must reduce speed and move cautiously near tractors and farm vehicles. You should allow yourself extra time when traveling, especially on backroads, during planting season. Everyone deserves to get home safely!

Final day of Zones!

Cameron Gill had a great ride in the Varsity Open Flat, earning an 8th out of a very competitive class! This is big accomplishment for Cam’s first year showing in Open (as a freshman)

We are so proud of all of our girls efforts this weekend & can’t wait for next season!

All of our girls had strong rides today & our middle school team ended the day in 4th out of 14 teams

Kendall Shires won her individual class today & is advancing onto nationals!

We’re so proud of all of our riders and can’t wait for tomorrow to wrap up a fun weekend!

Eli 💙

Cancer sucks. In horses, people, any of our loved ones.

We’ve been lucky enough to have had Eli in our program for several years. A tremendous thank you to Deanna Shoop for sharing her special boy with us. Eli spent his early years doing (quite literally) anything and everything. He’s done hunters, jumpers, fox hunting, dressage…you name it, he’s done it!

In his later years with us, he spent his time teaching the littlest of kids, up to the adults. Sure, he had his quirks but don’t they all? Eli was always a fan fave at IEA shows, and he certainly enjoyed being able to come out and show off.

With that said, thank you Eli. For everything. We’ll miss you tremendously, but go up there and give heaven some hell like we all know you can 💙

“They say the best horses in heaven, they have no tail”

Today we mourn the loss of our oldest resident and lesson horse, Maestro 💙

Maestro has been with our program for 19 years, and has probably taught a million kids how to ride (but, seriously). We joke that Maestro came with the farm because he’s been with us since day 1 at Obligation. He aptly earned the nickname the “Vintage Sewing Machine” because he wasn’t winning a flat class anytime soon. But, he was very good at one job and that was keeping the kids safe. He wasn’t afraid to challenge the kids, but he always kept them safe.

Maestro’s favorite thing in the entire world? Grass. And lots of it. For the number of kids he’s taught how to ride, he’s drug double that amount to the grass (which arguably is a good lesson to learn)

Maestro’s least favorite thing in the world? Home shows. He didn’t like when everyone came into his house (understandable for an old man)

The barn will feel empty for a long time, as we don’t know what the barn is like without Maestro. Thank you for always being a good boy, even when you shouldn’t have 💙

Today’s lesson horse of the day is “Bailey!”

Bailey has been with us upwards of 15 years. While she may be a chestnut mare, she is one of the sweetest ponies in the barn 😇 (she may also be one of the laziest 💤)

She may be one that makes you work hard, but she always tries and she never says no. Bailey is always a top pick for lessons, and a favorite during summer camp! Bailey also always has the best dapples!

Fun fact: Bailey’s original name was Strawberry 🍓
