To continue with National Pet Fire Safety Day, we are going to talk about preparing!
1. Always have a plan for when you are home if there is a fire.
2. Always include your pet in a family emergency plan.
3. Put up pet number decals on your doors or windows so emergency personnel know you have pets inside.
4. Use monitored smoke detectors
5. KNOW WHERE YOUR PETS HIDE

Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day. We often leave pets at home while we either go to work or run errands. Though we cannot predict when a fire can break out, we can do our best to prevent it. Here are some tips to help reduce the risk:
1. Secure wires where our pets cannot chew on them.
2. Put covers over stove k***s
3. Unplug small appliances under cabinets when not in use.

Happy Independence Day! While everyone is gearing up for the celebrations tonight remember to consider your pets safety! PETS AND FIREWORKS DO NOT MIX!
Here are some tips to remember for your pets:

1. Keep pets indoors. They don't care about the pretty lights in the sky. Loud pops and booms could easily startle your pet and cause them to run away.
2. Provide a quiet place for them to relax.
3. Give them distractions! Give treats/toys such as kongs to keep them busy. Turn on the TV or radio to have other noises other than the booms outside.
4. Make sure your pet is microchipped in case they do break free.
5. Make sure if you feel your pet needs medication to help with the stress to call in ahead of time as the only places open on the 4th are emergency clinics

No one can say that Shelbie doesn’t go above and beyond for the patients she cares for. Parka was recovering from anesthesia so Shelbie hung out with her so she would stay calm and comfortable. (All the while keeping up with her other work!) Now that’s what we call multi-tasking!

Did you know that some artificial sweeteners are toxic to our furry friends?
Xylitol is a sweet-tasting crystalline alcohol derived from xylose, present in some plant tissues and used as an artificial sweetener in foods. This can be found in gum, some peanut butters, pancake syrups, toothpaste and other candies.
The key is to always read your ingredients. When in doubt call the clinic or Animal Poison Control.

As we come into spring we start seeing all the pretty colors of blooming flowers, plants and trees. When we are working in the yard we don’t always consider if the plant could harm our pets. Sago palm, lilies and tulips are just a few of the plants that can be harmful. When in doubt if you think your pet ingested or came in contact with something poisonous always call and ask our clinic. If it is after hours you can always contact Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435
