Today was an amazing day! A huge thank you to my friend and former teacher Heather Pratt for the opportunity! I was asked to come and speak at Kent Career Technical Center on ethical breeding, akc conformation showing and dog sports! We talked about everything from color genetics, structure, proper health testing, whelping, training, and the various sports you can participate in with dachshunds. The students had so many great questions! It was a wonderful experience and the dogs got to come along and get loved on!

•Pet your dog, all the time
•Talk to your dog, all the time
•Allow your dog to follow you, all the time
•Allow your dog to be on your lap or laying on your feet, all the time
•Pet, soothe, comfort your dog when it whines or barks for attention...or is simply anxious
•Allow your dog to demand affection/interactions
•Be emotionally dependent on your dog to the point that unhealthy dependency and interactions are no longer noticed
•Allow your dog to do whatever it wants, whenever it wants—aka, provide no structure, rules, or accountability
•Foster an environment of chaos, stress, and anxiety
•Refuse to train and pattern calmness
•Refuse to crate train your dog
•Refuse to correct your dog when inappropriate behavior occurs
•Refuse to train your dog how to be independent/alone by using a “Place” command, “Downstay, and/or “away” time in the crate
•Let your dog out of the crate when it whines or barks
•Avoid training or anything that makes your dog temporarily uncomfortable or unhappy—in other words, cater to your dog’s every desire/need, designing your life around your dog, rather than having your dog fit into yours
•And many, many more...

Basically, baby, soothe, allow, enable, disable, lean on, omit teaching necessary life skills, prioritize what feels good for you rather than what does good for your dog, and through this master plan of leadership-free chaos, and systematic cultivation of creating a toxic dependency between dog and human...you’ll ensure that when you leave, your dog will be a true emotional mess, because you haven’t prepared them to be calm, obedient, strong, resilient, robust, independent, and alone.

What a week!! We just arrived home from a fantastic trial put on by the Wolverine Dachshund Club. Thank you to all the members, judges, and beaters that made the trials a success. Finn was so close to finishing his field title. He only needs a first placement as he's pointed out now. He was in the ribbons with two 2nd placements and an NBQ. Jinks who is co-ownded with Laura Abbott-Licht came along just to be exposed and build some confidence. With no prior practice, he took a 3rd and 4th placement! Birch, who I co own with Jan DuBois, and was handled by Kathleen Johnson, took a third placement one of the days which was so awesome to have 2 of my boys in the ribbons 3 different days. We had so much fun and love all of our members. Lots of laughter and fun was had!

Yesterday we took Milka and Trixie to a horse show. It is important to get these younger pups out and have them experience many different environments and socialize them, it helps build their confidence over time. I bring treats along and while we are sitting, allow people to give them some. Trixie was unsure of little kids, so when they ask to pet her I always assess how she is in that moment. I either say just give her a treat or tell them yes, but to move very slowly. Trixie did fantastic and Milka too! They were very intrigued with the horses running and the side by side dragging the arena, a little unsure of things in the beginning, but by the end they were sleeping on others laps, unbothered by the horses or equipment running. It was a fun day!

We had a fun day today in Corunna at the Mid Mitten Cluster! Thank you to Dr. James D Sillers, Zendoxies Milka Fabienne went WB and Best of Opposite for another point. We stayed for owner handler group but no love there. However, we got to spend the day with our dog show friends and catch up, which is always spectacular!

This is what many breeders are cautious of letting people come to their homes!

Paul Peavey, 57, was reported missing last Wednesday. His body was found Saturday morning by a group of concerned neighbors and friends in the 1000 block of Two Brothers Road near Idaho Springs.12 of his puppies were stolen along with anything of value.
Peavey was a long-time Idaho Springs resident and show breeder of Doberman dogs who also trained them for Therapy work. Everyone says he was a kind person who always had a smile on his face and loved his dogs dearly.

Listen this is why we breeders don't have visitors inside our homes anymore.
And why we have cameras and security all over, and most of us simply meet at the police station for our family's and dogs safety.

Such a tragic loss. This is so heartbreaking.

There is a suspect in custody already!

We work hard on setting our babies up for success when they go home. Crate training in the works. But it isn't always this quiet LOL...
