PIP UPDATE!!!

Pip does have at least one fracture, but her little bones are so tiny and her growth plates are still so big that it is hard to tell exactly what all is broken. She's is going to have to spend several weeks in a cast, with weekly recheck to see how she is healing before we can determine if surgery will be required for her to heal. It hasn't gotten her down though, and she is determined to scoot around where ever her heart desires.

Please consider donating so that we can continue to care for her as she needs and deserves.

Meet Pip. Pip's story is one that is all too common these days, as she was found on the side of the highway, bloody and disoriented. We don't know if she was hit by a car or thrown out of a vehicle, but she is broken. She weighs less than 2 # and her little back legs quiver everytime she stands up to try to take a step, and her limp is hard to watch. She needs to be evaluated by our vet to see if there is anything to be done to fix her as soon as possible. She is safe and has a wonderful foster lined up already, but she does need you help to get the medical care she needs. Anyone who would like to to and is welcome to donate through here or our PayPal link below.

This lovebug Red is available for adoption at the shelter. Red is about 5 years old, declawed on his front paws, and would very much prefer a home with no children. He does take a little bit to warm up to you, but when he does he is such a love!!! Come by the shelter & meet Red & hopefully be his new furrever home!!!

Update on the pups abandoned in our parking lot earlier this week.

The little blue boy that we all loved so much, gave all the fight he had to give, but was just too weak to recover. We lost him early this morning, despite our best efforts. We know he is no longer suffering, and that he knew what it felt like to be loved, at least for a short while.

We still have 4 puppies fighting for their lives. They seem to be mildly interested in Pedigree Puppy Wet food, so any donations of that would be greatly appreciated. We are still syringe feeding them a prescription grade high caloric diet, and we are in desperate need of more. Either Purina ProPlan Critical Nutrition or Hill's Prescription Diet a/d Diet food, but since these are both prescription diets, they would be available through the local vet clinics if anyone would like to help donate food for these babies.

Please remember to this holiday weekend.

05/22/2024

Yesterday was a bad day for us here at the shelter, and we are at a loss. We have begged, we have pleaded, we have been compassionate and we have been angry, but now we are reaching the point of just being defeated, so we are at a loss as to how to communicate that we NEED everyone to BE HUMANE.

WE CANNOT CONTINUE TO CARE FOR ANIMALS AND HELP THE COMMUNITY IF PEOPLE CONTINUE TO DUMP ANIMALS.

Period.

We are in the middle of a NATIONWIDE crisis in Animal Welfare. That means that people are not adopting as readily as they once did. That means that transports are not able to pull as many animals from overcrowded shelters as they once did.

We work off of managed intakes, so every kennel we have is full - ALL THE TIME - and as soon as something gets adopted or gets to leave on transport, we call the next person in line waiting to bring their animal in and fill it up.

Over 20 animals have been dumped THIS MONTH

We do not have the SPACE to put anything else. Every available kennel is full currently. Every holding kennel bank has animals in it. Our office staff each has a LITTER of puppies behind their desks, and our staff's small tiny lunch table has animals on it, leaving them NO WHERE to eat their lunches. We do not have the STAFF to provide the care, enrichment and time that all the animals need when we over crowd the shelter, which leads to animals becoming more stressed and acting out, which PUTS THEIR LIVES IN JEOPARDY. We do not have the MONEY to provide all the medical care and basic necessities that the animals in our care require and DESERVE.

There are MULTIPLE shelters and rescues in the area, but EVERYONE is full, everyone is OVERWHELMED, and everyone is trying to their best, but there are far more animals in need than there is help available. We are doing everything we can to help as many animals and people as we can, but we CANNOT do it alone. We are NOT the solution. We are just a tiny life raft and we don't have enough duct tape to patch the holes we are leaking air from.

Something has to change before there is nowhere left to help.

Contact your Board of Supervisor's and tell them you want your tax dollars to go towards fixing this problem. Start a petition. Call people to action. Do SOMETHING to be the solution, rather than dumping an animal and contributing to the problem.

These puppies deserved better. They deserved more than being left in a basket to die alone.

If you would like to donate towards trying to save the remaining 5 puppies, we would be eternally grateful. They deserve a chance, even if it's just to grow up in a shelter, they deserve a chance.

Meet Sassy!!

This girl is eager & ready for her new home. She is 6 years old & up to date with vaccines, deworming, & flea prevention. She is already spayed and she is declawed on her front paws. Her adoption fee is $150.

Since she is declawed, Sassy is available for adoption here at the shelter and needs to be an inside cat only. See the video in the comments so you can see how sweet she is.

Anyone who has come into our office for the past several years has probably been greeted by this vivacious young lady.

Carlee started volunteering for us YEARS ago when she was just a pup herself, and through crazy twists of fate, walked in our office door and offered to help as an adult when we needed her the most. Her dedication and willingness to jump in and learn anything quuckly made her an invaluable member of our team, and her empathy and compassion for all things helped ease numerous people's minds and hearts as they struggled with bringing animals to us. But, like all good things, Carlee's time with us must come to end, as she prepares to embark on her greatest adventure yet, by marrying the man of her dreams AND starting vet school in a few weeks. The one thing Carlee has never been good at is doing things halfway. We could not be more excited to watch her flourish and achieve all her goals, with an amazing man and partner by her side.

Today, our office will be closed as we celebrate Carlee and Aaron's love and their decision to join their lives together. Congratulations, Carlee! You're doing a good job.

Hub City Humane Society has loved serving our community for 13 years. Although the need for shelters for abandoned and homeless animals is at an all time high, donations have dropped drastically and we have been thousands of dollars below what we need to stay open for several months in a row.

The cost to care for each animal we adopt out is not covered by the adoption and surrender fee we collect. We have used donations in the past to make up for the shortfall, but now that donations are not covering basic needs, we have had to make changes in our pricing so that we can cover the cost of each animal we adopt out.

We want to be here to serve our community! We are fighting to be here! Please help us by supporting us through adoption, sponsoring heartworm treatments, or just donating to help us take care of more precious animals!

We are immensely grateful for your ongoing support and belief in our mission. Together, we can weather these challenges and continue making a positive difference in the lives of animals in need.

Thank you for standing with us during these times.

It’s $5 Friday’s here at the shelter!! We know times are tough for everyone right now and so many have said that they wish they could do more, but the thing is EVERY little bit helps, even $5.00. And here’s how...

We have been getting pleas right and left for help with puppies that people found abandoned, many don't even have their eyes open yet and have no chance of survival without someone helping them. A nearby fire department had a litter of 9 abandoned in a box for hours, a vet clinic had a box dropped in their parking lot, another litter found by the side of the road and the calls keep coming. We WANT to help, and if we could, we would take every single litter of abandoned starving newborn puppies, just to give them a chance to see that the world isn't all bad. But, we NEED help to be able to do that. We need experienced fosters that can help nurse these babies back to health. We need puppy formula to be able to feed them all. We need wet puppy food to be able to transition them over to dry food. We need dry puppy food to be able to keep them all happy and fat while they wait for their forever homes. And we NEED people to stop abandoning things where their not safe.

So how about it? Who can and to donate $5.00 to ?

Listen to Pepperoni purr. One of the four “snackables”. Turkey,Ritz cracker, Cheddar Cheese, and Pepperoni.

We are introducing them to our medium 50-55lb dogs and they are loving it. They met 120lb Great Dane earlier today and do very well around dogs.

They still need to gain some weight before spay/neuter surgeries and adoption.

Thanks to the donations and foster care, these kittens, whose eyes where pockets of pus in the original post, were able to be saved. All eyeballs intact.

Thanks to dedicated fosters and donors. They are exploring a new room and growing like weeds. They will eat 15-16 oz a day of wet canned kitten food in addition to dry kitten food.
Friskies pate food would be appreciated. Foster mom has been buying dry and wet food out of pocket. Can send via Amazon. Any flavor cause these hungry babies will eat a lot.

***Seeker Update***

Poor little Seeker was more badly broken than we initially anticipated and we suspect now that he may have been hit by a car or some other form of severe trauma BEFORE being thrown out of a moving vehicle. His right tibia and fibula are broken as we initially suspected when he arrived to us , but his pelvis is also broken. This poor fella has been through the ringer. He is young though and that works both in his favor and against him. Because he is young he should heal and recover from this trauma with ease, but it also means that surgically fixing him with a plate could do more damage or cause problems with his puppy bones, as a plate would hinder their ability to grow. For right now, the amazing vets at All Animal Clinic have decided that setting his bones and placing a splint to stabilize them is the best course of action. He is staying hospitalized with them at the moment, as keeping him still and quite are so important to his healing process. They are going to monitor him closer and if he is not healing as we hope, then surgery will be required.

This means that Seeker's medical care will be continual and on going for at least 6 weeks if not longer, and that is going to be a very hefty medical bill, so Seeker still needs your help. Donations can be made directly to All Animal Clinic for Seeker, through our PayPal link listed below, in person at the shelter or through this post.

Thank you to everyone who has already chosen to to and , and to everyone who finds it in their heart to help little Seeker. We could NOT do what we do without your support. ❤️

04/25/2024

It's been another busy week here at Hub City, while our team worked tirelessly to try to make a dent in the overwhelming crisis that is Animal Welfare right now. For almost 60 lucky pups, their salvation came early this morning as they hopped a ride up to NY and CT to our amazing rescue partners at PawSafe Animal Rescue where they will find their forever homes.

And the best part is, this is a community/foster based trip, which means that NONE of these pups actually had to live at the shelter, in such a high-risk environment, prior to getting this opportunity!

Want to join our cause and help pups in need? We are always in need of short term fosters - generally only a couple weeks - and will provide everything you need if you can offer a safe place for pups to crash while they wait for a trip. Can't foster? There are lots of ways to help, from donating the much needed supplies, to socializing, to sponsoring heartworm treatments and so much. Reach out to us via the Volunteer tab on our website and one of our team members will contact you with more details.

Most importantly, please remember to

Our office will reopen tomorrow, April 25, at 11am. We hope to see you then!

Our hearts are broken for this poor little pup that we have named Seeker. Seeker is in desperate need of medical care after a Good Samaritan WITNESSED someone throw this baby and his sibling out a car window like a piece of trash. He is broken, needs xrays and mostly likely surgery to alleviate the pain and suffering inflicted on him by someone's carless actions. He is on his way to the vet and we will update once we know more, but please, and to .
