Here’s a little video explaining how we start your dog on e collar training
Normally we would do this is in less distracting environments such as our home, but Rocky is a dog that doesn’t get that distracted by passing cars so we were comfortable doing this outside
The command we are teaching is place, but the same method would be used for down, recall, and sit.
We start by priming, you’ll do this when your dog is leash trained and understands the concept of turning off pressure. Do a couple reps of the command you want to teach with the e collar so it’s fresh in the dogs mind
Next you’ll remove the word, and use your dogs working level to apply constant pressure until your dog completes the command. You can help by using leash guidance and using your body in the beginning since your dog will most likely be confused. MAINTAIN E COLLAR PRESSURE THE WHOLE TIME your doing this though!
Sometimes your dog will start to scratch at the collar, don’t turn off the button!!! Maintain pressure and use the leash to have them finish the command. Only release once your dog completes the command.
Then repeat this a couple dozen times until your dog understands how to shut off the working level e collar pressure.
We will make another post with rocky when he’s on the next step:)
It takes a lot of time and repetition to fully train your dog.
I know that we talk about duration a lot because it is the key to improving your dogs mental health but repetition is also very important if you want a well-trained dog!!!
Training your dog around various distractions is very important. If you think that just because your dog comes to you inside they will come to you outside you are not correct. Work your dog around all distractions. We call this Life proofing.
We encourage our clients to practice recall in the backyard, inside, the front yard and a park on a long line before even thinking about taking their dog off leash.
You can do it! Put in the time and effort now and it will definitely pay off in the long run! 😊

Our sweet girl Skully passed away this morning. After fighting toe and now lung cancer she was ready to rest.
We will miss this sweet girl who brought so much joy into our lives. We will miss her wagging tail and happy face 😂.
You may have not seen her very much but she was part of training all our dogs. She would watch every day as we would train and often help us as a distraction when we asked her to. She was definitely a member of our team and family. She will be missed so much!
Thank you Skully for all of your love ❤️

Welcome Rocco! He is joining us for some basic obedience and we are very excited to be working with him!
His owners want to be able to take him on walks and hikes more comfortably so we’re excited to make that possible!
