Extremely happy to announce Mae has found her forever home with Kobo Animal Solutions!!
She is going to have a fantastic life filled with lots of adventures outdoors, continuing her training and making lots of new friends along the way!!
I’m SO proud to be her stepping stone as “Auntie” during her wait for her forever family.
She’s come a long way since coming to my home about a year and a half ago and I’m extremely excited to see where she goes!

This is probably a good time to announce on our end...

We officially added to the team today...

Everyone welcome Mae to the Kobo team.

Please welcome Archie into the Anxiety Program!
I’m extremely grateful for his mom to allow me this opportunity to help Archie through some of his anxiety and take progressive steps towards a calmer more confident mindset.

Archie really struggles with being alone without his “sister” Rosie where it has created a very unhealthy level of attachment to her.
He’s been using her as his “emotional support pacifier” and due to this he doesn’t know how to relax when left alone.
Archie also get extremely anxious when guests come over and barks excessive for long periods of time.
In addition to his major anxiety he also has a high prey drive which makes the cats who also live in his home pretty stressed out.
This is currently how Archie reacts to simply being in a crate without Rosie.
He’s fully comfortable physically.
He’s had breakfast, water, potty break, has a comfy blanket, AC is on and yet.. mentally he’s not ok. His adrenaline levels are through the roof because he (currently!) doesn’t know how to cope with being alone.

Stay tuned for his journey!

Fantastic puppy advice from our fellow trainer Lionheart K9, Dog Training in Maryland!

The Long and the Short of it. How to stop puppy barking by preventing it in the first place...

"One thing people overlook is not allowing the puppy out of the crate until it is calm. I do not permit dogs to exit the crate in a heightened state of arousal. The dog must sit, stand or lie down patiently as I approach, and until I extract the dog on a leash and collar. This is important because we tend to ‘feed’ the wrong emotional state, creating more excitement, and therefore more resentment for being confined.

Every approach should be quiet and casual. We start initiating a ritual about crate confinement and exiting from the very first moment we bring your new puppy home to help inoculate against stress around confinement. We practice these things in advance of our need. We don’t wait until the puppy needs to go the bathroom before practicing ‘waiting’ in the crate, we practice ‘waiting’ first before the puppy ever has to relieve itself.

The third factor is ‘being comfortable with being uncomfortable’, at least for the first few days your new puppy is home. Make sure your puppy is taken out to relieve itself the very last thing before turning out the lights, and set your alarm every few hours during the night to take your puppy out before he wakes you up. The reason this is important is because of the precedent we wish to establish regarding being quiet while confined.

If I allow my puppy to get emotionally overcome and it starts to make noise and I sympathize or get frustrated and release it, I have signalled that noisemaking is rewarded. If I make small sacrifices early and take the puppy out before it makes noise, I am essentially rewarding silence. Yes, it is inconvenient, but that inconvenience is temporary."

Please congratulate Murphy on completing his first week Behavioral Modification Stay and Learn!
He’s making great progress and has achieved several goals so far.
Those goals include:
🦴Increased confidence with being alone, learning in a new home, being around other dogs he doesn’t know
🦴Starting to understand E.Collar pressure
🦴Stop jumping on people
🦴 Continuing to learn he shouldn’t be using his mouth to “say hi” when he’s excited about seeing you
🦴 Going to Place and remaining there

His biggest accomplishment this week:
🏆🏆🏆🏆
🦴 Leaving an item and then coming when called!!

Because Murphy doesn’t like to share whatever item he deems as his (toy, bone, wrapper on the floor etc) teaching him to leave those things and coming away from something he wants is HUGE!!
We are starting small with not follow allowing him to be immersed in having the item but this is a fantastic step forward for him!!

Mr. Murphy is doing great!!
Here he is patiently waiting to be released from a sit and to come politely in the door from outside.
He’s working on his impulse to rush in and out of the door because LIFE is EXTREMELY EXCITING!!

How do you think “Mr. I’m super excited about life!” Is doing!?

More updates coming soon!
