ANNOUCEMENT:

As we are sure you have heard, either on the news, through friends, or your daycare/boarding and veterinary facilities, there have been several cases of Canine Influenza in the area. While we do require proof of Rabies and Bordatella vaccinations, the Canine Influenza vaccination is not widely a recommended vaccination, nor is it readily available.

**If you attend any of the local daycares/boarding facilities, or dog parks, please cancel your apointment.** Please email us at [email protected] or call 610 446 0999 to cancel your appointment.

Dogs are most contagious during the incubation period (1-5 days) and can spread the virus even when asymptomatic. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, “Virtually all dogs exposed to Canine Influenza virus become infected, with approximately 80% developing clinical signs of disease.”

Canine Influenza is transmitted via droplets and through people and objects that have had contact with infected dogs. Symptoms of canine influenza include coughing, lethargy, fever, decreased appetite, and a runny nose. Dogs with influenza also have an increased risk of developing a secondary infection, like pneumonia. Cats can become infected and though there are no known fatalities to cats, there is also no vaccine for them. Currently there are no known cases of humans becoming infected.

We started drafting this post several weeks ago. We wanted to share some of our thoughts of the past year, and the year to come. After writing and rewriting, we realized it comes down to the love we have for our customers and the love we get in return. Each one of you is a valued customer, each one of you deserves all our gratitude. We wish you in the best Holiday Season and a healthy, happy 2023. We will close December 24 and return on January 3. We look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year.
Peace and love,
Danielle and Christian

City Dog Seeking a New Dog Life in the Suburbs

Hi, my name is Penny!

Highlights: I currently hold the title of #1 cuddler in the small dog category at the Pennsylvania Doggolympics. For obvious reasons, I also won in the Cuteness category 3 years running. My mom said if there were a category for the biggest and brightest (ears) I would definitely win that too.

About me: I’m adopted. I never knew my biological parents. My mom brought me home from the rescue 3 years ago when I was 6 months old. My heritage is of the blended variety (unknown exactly) suspected to be a mix of corgi, chihuahua and maybe terrier. My stature is short-low to the ground and long. I weigh about 15lbs. I’m house trained and crate trained, know a few tricks, and mind my manners most of the time. I am helpful around the house always making sure to clean up any crumbs on the kitchen floor. Did I mention my cuddling skills are top notch?
My mom and I are really close so making the decision for me to move out was really difficult. We both tried as best as we could to make it work. Ultimately, we decided that in order for me to grow up living my best life I need to live in a place with more space inside and outside, less traffic, fewer people, and less noise. Sometimes the city can be overwhelming for a little pupper like me.

More about me: I’m a bit of a homebody and slightly antisocial. I do not have any human or fur siblings and I would like to keep it that way because I am used to getting all of the attention. I like daily playtime but I’m not too high energy as snoozing and cuddling are my favorite activities. I prefer a fenced-in backyard over long walks. I like to do dog stuff like roll in the grass, play with bugs, occasionally dig a hole, and be on alert for chipmunks and squirrels. When I go to grandma’s house, I am really good at keeping them away from the bird feeders. I have a few quirks and sometimes protest things I don’t want to do. My mom and I work on continual self-improvement. Overall, I’m a warm and loving housemate. Lastly, I do not like to be home alone all day. My ideal human would be an individual or couple who is home more often than not, has experience with dogs, and room in their heart and home for a playful loving pup to romp around.

Proper “prepping”: Learn and master the different tools and ways to thoroughly brush and comb a customer; how to provide a relaxing “pawdicure”, and pluck and clean their ears. All of these skills are essential to getting our customers ready for the bath.

Bathing/Drying: Learn and master the various types of shampoos, proper bathing techniques, and most crucial, the proper tools and techniques of drying a customer’s hair, for a variety of grooming styles.

Grooming: Our Master Groomer will instruct you on clipper and scissor techniques in order to achieve our customer’s desired look. You will be able to groom, in accordance with breed standards and customer requests, styles for various hair and fur types.

REQUIRED READING FOR CUSTOMERS WITH DOODLES:

Since Doodles have taken over the world, we have embraced them; they are awesome dogs! We see Bernadoos, Sheepapoos, Saint Berdoodles, Giant Schnoodles, in all shapes, sizes and coat types.

• We have posted many articles on maintaining the doodles’ coats at home and we encourage you to read same. We are trying to avoid any doodle from becoming so matted that they face severe skin problems and injuries. We are also trying to prevent disappointed owners from vilifying their groomer for shaving what can only be shaved.

• The BIG untruth we would like to address about these dogs is that they are low maintenance. This could not be further from the truth. As the owner, you are expected to perform daily home maintenance. This includes brushing AND combing, everyday. (With a slicker brush and metal greyhound comb). The end result should be the ability to get the comb from the root to tip of the hair. You always want to start with the slicker brush, as this will help break up any knots, and finish with the comb.

• In addition, if you want your doodle to have that well-known long and fluffy coat, grooming at 4-6 weeks intervals is required. This is in addition to the daily home maintenance. Of course, if you like a shorter doodle, you can schedule on a 6-8 week interval. If your doodle is longer than 10 weeks between grooms, without daily home maintenance, your doodle will be shaved down.

• We are encouraging you, the doodle owner, to book your doodle for a minimum of six grooms, if not the year.

WITH THE EXCESSIVE HEAT WAVE, we are asking that pets not get dropped off before their appointment, and get picked up as soon as we call, or shortly thereafter, as our air conditioner cannot keep up with the outside heat, and the heat produced inside with hot water and dryers. We thank you, your pet thanks you and we appreciate your understanding.

Dogs have been man's best friend for over thousands of years, and over the last 100 years especially, it has been very easy to see that change human intervention has caused. Some aspects of our favorite pets can be exaggerated when breeders choose the dogs that show these traits that are appealing....

This is an open letter to Doodle owners, from a professional groomer. We will be shaving two doodles today, we will once again explain to a disappointed owner, that the fluffy doodle takes considerable devotion at home. Even on a six, eight week schedule, the doodle, all sizes and shapes, require DAILY brushing and combing . . . to the root of the hair. If you have a doodle, please read this article.

For Adoption: Sprinkles on the right . . . odd man out, third wheel. We adopted 3 barn kittens for our new house. Pizza and Cheese have adapted well, hang in the barn, buddy up for warmth, and constantly together. Sprinkles, on the other hand, is not suited for farm life. She LOVES people, she prefers to be with people, and is best suited for the indoor, spoiled cat life. She is 5 months old, spayed and vaccinated. Please email [email protected].
