April is Lyme & Heartworm Disease prevention month!

Did you know that Pennsylvania is one of the states with the highest reported cases for Lyme Disease? That’s just for humans! So imagine your pets risk of getting it! Lyme disease is not the only concern when it comes to ticks, there are several diseases that ticks can transmit and make your pet very ill.

Lyme Nephritis - although it can be rare and it is more commonly seen in Labradors and Golden Retrievers, it is a very serious condition of untreated Lyme disease that can cause irreversible damage to the kidneys, this has to be treated aggressively and can be quite expensive.

We recommend year round preventative, as well as yearly screening with your primary vet so that this never happens to your precious pets!

Heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes. Although this is more commonly seen in the southern states, while other states have lower rates of exposure NO state is Heartworm free and it has been treated in pets nationwide! Often this can go unnoticed, it is often treatable in most cases but requires multiple medications and a lot of restrictions. It can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries.

We recommend year round preventatives as well as yearly screenings with your primary care vet to protect your pet from this disease!

Please reach out to your primary care veterinarian and ask about what they offer for prevention! There are many options out there now to make things as easy as possible for you and your pets!

April 6th is National Siamese Cat Day!

Here are some fun facts!

Other breeds have descended from the Siamese, namely the Balinese, Tonkinese and Havana Brown.

In 1970 a Burmese/Siamese cat gave birth to the world's largest litter of kittens – a total of 19!

In the 1960s, a pair of Siamese cats living in the Dutch embassy in Moscow started scratching a wall in the Ambassador’s office. Behind that wall were small microphones that the cats could hear! They were credited with revealing an espionage plot.

The Siamese cat, Scooter, was the oldest recorded living cat until he passed away in 2016, aged 30.

The Siamese cat name translates to Wichienmaat which means ‘moon diamond’. A beautiful name for a beautiful cat.

Siamese cats are great! But just like any animal they come with their health concerns. There are many great articles about this breed and things to be mindful of!

Share us your Siamese cat pictures!!

Introducing the one and only Schmidt! Schmidt became an instant fan favorite as soon as we met this precious man!

Schmidt and his brother had a disagreement and he needed a significant wound repair and rechecks. Schmidt has made a full recovery and looks wonderful!

The entire staff were honored to meet and treat this pup! Schmidt is a sensitive guy and can be misunderstood, but he learned to love us as much as we love him!! Thank you to his family for allowing us the pleasure of fixing him up!! We love happy endings!
