Isn’t this just the cutest whelping theme? Crayons complete with a crayon whelping pad made by Klasi Kreations (This fabric no longer available). Monica McGee certainly knows how to showcase her litters. Wishing Kokopelli Goldens a healthy whelp this week.

FYI. If you are ordering pads that are larger than 54” in width, I have to tag (sew on) pieces (2) from the bottom width and attach lengthwise to the side which causes the side piece to run in a different direction. I Do Not match fabric direction and I will not match plaids. IF ordering plaids the sides of your pad may not be totally straight with plaid lines. You can’t pay me enough and you are totally out of your mind IF you think I will. I had a complaint from someone who is apparently a bit OCD.
IF this is you…..order a fabric that has no print nor an obvious directional pattern and send to me.

I have had questions come up again so I hope the following helps:

LAUNDERING INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR PADS:

My pads are Machine Washable and Machine Dry on warm or hot.
I have always used warm/hot but then I have a great source for getting new ones.
DRYiNG:
Many have had my pads for many years with great success but I have had a couple instances where the backing melted. I believe these were pads made for a very short time inbetween my previous source that went out of business, and my current source.
Some have said they take a long time to dry. They are three ply. I do not know every dryer brand out there, or their capacity. With all laundering DO NOT OVER BURDEN your dryer. Pads MUST be allowed to tumble, not just roll around in a ball or have the backing stuffed up against the drum that is metal and does get hot. It’s not unlike the time my husband melted my underwear by too many clothes in a too hot dryer! (I’m certain he kept turning on the heat so he wouldn’t have to fold the clothes until I got home from work).
Fleece comes in many densities and some do take longer to dry.
DO NOT USE FABRIC SHEETS
As with all fabrics heat can cause pads to shrink. Stretch back out After removing from dryer. I do make then a couple inches larger however restretching back into original measurement is easy.
They will pill over time, think of it as providing more traction.
IF you want to keep them pristine you can always line dry, but I never wanted to deal with that s**t. We have enough things to worry about laundering shouldn’t be one of them

WASHING:
The HE washers don’t provide a lot of water. Use Nominal soap and use a couple tablespoons of Laundry baking soda in every wash. DO NOT USE ANY SOFTNERS! Again, do not over burden your washers. Allow the water to be able to flush through the fabrics, it is why I do not do a heavy quilting, just enough to keep the backing from floating.
You can wash in warm or hot! I find that warm is sufficient and helps with shrinkage.
IF YOU FIND that your pads are no longer absorbent you will need to strip your pads. Use 1/2 cup laundry baking soda in wash and 1/2 cup vinegar in rinse cycle.
YES! You can whelp out on them! Just prewash before washing.

My suggestion for minimal pads to have is a minimum of 5. Either mine or other brands. You most likely will be changing out morning and night. The 3-5 week mark is the worst when they are just learning to use the potty box and Mom isn’t continually cleaning them. You will have one in the box, one or two in the wash and two washed and ready for the day.

If any of you have further instructions or what works for you I would like to hear them.

I hope this helps you all.

I have been getting orders for the Puppy Warmer incubator pads. Fabric choices are not available for this product as I use remnants from my whelping pads fabrics that I use. The incubator pads are available only if I have remnants available.

IF you place an order and I do not currently have sufficient remnants available you can be put on a waiting list.

The incubator pads are made three ply just like my whelping pads.

Thanks all

EXTRA LARGE PADS: just an fyi so you understand how I have to lay out fabric and the additional product and work involved. As with everything my costs for products continue to rise. My backing has already increased over 100.00 as did my batting just recently. I am trying hard to keep my costs down.

Over 54” wide. My fleece fabric comes in approx. 58-60” widths. This incorporates the selvage edge. I can only make maximum 54” pads as I turn under fabric. IF you need/want pads over 54” up to 60” wide it requires me to cut fleece and tag (sew) these pieces to the top fleece. My minimum charge for these pads are 140.00.

EXTRA EXTRA LARGE PADS: These are pads over 60” width, traditionally 60” minimum length. My backing only comes in 60” widths. This requires me to not only tag on the fleece above but also tag on a piece of the backing to the side. Minimum charge for these pads are 150.00 if I have remnants available for tagging onto the backing.

Standard size prices:
36 x 36 pads 90.00
48 x 48 pads 100.00
54 x 54 pads 105.00
48x 60 pads 110.00

Thanks for understanding. Hopefully this makes it easier for you to determine what size pads will work for you and the costs.

Stripping and stretching out your pads:

Shrinkage? IF you find your pads shrinking a bit, remove from warm dryer and do a two person stretch or remove from washer damp and do a two person stretch and let air dry. I usually make 1-2” larger to accomodate minor shrinkage).

Stripping: iF you find your pads not as absorbent as they once were, your pads need to be stripped. There are many different suggestions of stripping, most involve a bathtub soak (I don’t think so ). I use 2 methods. 1) use a combination of 1/8 cup borax, Arm & Hammer WASHING SODA and tide powdered detergent. One of my clients suggests using 1 Tablespoon of each of the above in every wash. 2) 1/2 cup Baking soda with detergent. Rinse with 1/2 cup vinegar in rinse cycle. Double rinse.
NEVER USE SOFTNERS OF ANY KIND!

Hope this answers questions about these topics.

Leeah Schwanger loves her new custom 6’ x 10’ playpen pads with playpen tabs. I have to admit these huge pads are a b***h to make. I procrastinated on them as it takes up soooo much space to layout and very cumbersome to sew, BUT so happy I have made my repeat good customer happy. Leeah shipped her own fabric direct to me for the construction. Thanks Leeah! What a beautiful puppy room❤️

Notice: I will no longer be making my warming boxes. I have a few in stock that I can send out with large orders of 5-6 or more pad orders. The cost to ship these is just not feasible unless a box of equal size is required to ship large orders. I will continue to send directions on how to create your own warming/transport box with the purchase of a kozy. I can squish multiple pads into shipping boxes quite easily reducing the cost of shipping.

I know many of you have seen this, I could not find it on my page so posting it again.

If you think raising puppies is glamorous...Here is the truth.....In the beginning the adrenaline and excitement is flowing....
Prior to Whelp:
You spend endless hours and dollars prepping your house for your new arrivals-transitioning normal "people rooms'" into glorious Puppy Rooms in which you will be isolated for 3 weeks on constant vigil in an uncomfortable couch, blowup bed or chair. You "dream" of your impending litter as your female lays by your side panting non-stop as you keep one eye open and both ears just waiting.
Then it happens: The whelp- Comforting Mom while all the time wishing this birth wasn't breach and your fingers have gone into Star Wars Mode: This is where no man has gone before. You feather, you pull, you reach into new uncharted territory.
Those fancy nails you previously wore adorned with many colors have since been removed to their natural state ready for this exact moment. Now your nails wear the honorable coat of color underneath the nail of blood & afterbirth proving the successful journey of a new life.
However, the hairs of gray and the wrinkles upon the brow reflect those not so successful births of night drives for the untimely C-Sections or the ultimate death of puppies you strive to revive.
The 1st day of not sleeping with your puppies and dam knowing they are safe and healthy brings on a euphoria that erupts into a drunken sloth with a few glasses of wine! My ain't we pretty!
Now comes the P*epartum Depression Period: Everywhere, All the time, Eat, P*e and P**p. A non-ending saga. 3-4 times a day.
The aromatics that fill our room is usually that of p**p on ourselves or on our shoes.
The Cleaning lady arrives-that be me!!! 6:00 am until 9:00 pm clean the whelping box, and playroom or play yard, wash the pads.
My daily showers have now been replaced with the luxury of just being able to change underwear once a day.
My shoes are all rubber usually adorned with puppy p**p.
My glasses used for a leisurely day of reading are now used for inspecting everything gross in puppy p**p or vomit.
My jewelry is now band-aids instead of something blingy.
The closest thing to sexy is the wet T-Shirt because I just bathed puppies
My Dates now consist of visits with fellows with DVM after their name.
The amount of root grow out is directly related to the age of my puppies because I can't find the time to visit my hairdresser.
WHY??????????? THIS TRULY IS A LABOR OF LOVE!!! There will be other days for nice hair, pretty nails, fancy clothes & shoes and dates out on the town....but for now I'll love my puppies!

One of my customers recently sent me pictures of her garden whelping box. It was unique in the way she configured it. She had made an area for mom to get away from puppies.. I can't recall who it was. Can you resend your picture if it was you??? Thank you Lisa Green!
