People ask me all the time how long it takes to make a cake. So last night I paid attention. Because I am the way I am; I cannot even start a cake until 9:30p-10p - don't ask me why π€·ββοΈ OCD? ADHD?... whatever?!
I cracked the 1st egg at 9:36pm, & I put the cookies for the 'food bowl' cake into the dehydrator at 7:52am. (I only cut out the cookies needed for this cake - I am currently cutting out the rest of those cookies ;) which will take approximately 3 hours to cut & bake)
It takes time to separate eggs & mix/fold in ingredients. 25 minutes to bake the cakes. While they were cooling i started mixing icing. There is a lot of "drying/ setting up" time when the icing is nothing like butter cream. From 11p until 5:50am, I consistently worked on 1 cake or another all night. The dogsafe fondant (nothing like marshmallow fondant or gumpaste) takes a minimum of an hour for me to get the consistency I need to roll it out, then placing the pieces on the cake, can be a trick.
The next time you think that a baker - especially a pet baker, over charges... think about the steps & time it takes to get to the end product ;) I barely pay myself for my time, because for the most part, I like to mess & tinker with details to create something that other people cannot do ;) something that I have never been trained to do, but rather taught myself through "sure, I can try it"
