All is well here and everyone at SAGE is safe! Thank you so much for your prayers and positivity!! 🙏💖 The chickens are happy to be back outside and though there’s work to do getting their enclosures perfected again, all in all they’re doing great and I couldn’t be more grateful! A small tree fell in the back pig yard, causing some minor fence damage, but the pigs were penned in a safer space during that time so everyone is ok! The dogs, cats, and bunnies are happy the strange loud wind has quieted down and the rain has stopped so they can all get back to relaxing. The pond is a lot more full than it was a few weeks ago before these late season hurricanes, and thankfully Milton wasn’t as rough on most of the plants as Helene was. (Check out the ripening papayas I found!) Definitely counting our blessings here today, and that includes being incredibly grateful for your love & support❤️ Sending love to everyone in the southeast who has been more drastically affected by the recent hurricanes, and all the first responders, emergency workers, linemen, and others who are working tirelessly trying to restore life to normal for everyone. This is the very first flower to ever bloom on any of the banana or plantain plants here in the SAGE gardens. I remember when we first dug this banana circle like it was yesterday. Many thanks go out to the volunteers who helped with this project way back when! At that time, the tallest thing growing was the crepe myrtle that was planted here, now barely visible from the deck behind the massive banana and plantain leaves. It's amazing seeing this bloom after so many years of being patient, and I cannot wait for these baby fruits to ripen so I can share them with the sanctuary animals!!! 🍌

Hey SAGEbuds! 💚 Today Kregg and Miss Toast got to enjoy some icy cold fruit and veggie snacks to help beat this Florida summer heat.
It’s been a while since my last post, and the break from the obligation of keeping up with social media has allowed me to focus on both animal care and self-care. Navigating the ever-changing algorithms and wading through the negatively-biased newsfeed can be extremely exhausting. This year has also been a time of deep grieving for me, and I'm finding this is such a complex experience that it can be hard to anticipate when emotional waves will break.
So if you need to set down some of the heavy things in life for a while in order to tend to other responsibilities, I’m here to tell you that’s ok. It’s in many instances a great idea to regroup and refocus on the most important goals, especially when your resources and capacities are stretched thin. Thank you so much for your ongoing support for all the SAGE residents! Thank you for your patience and understanding during my extended mental health break. Plethora of Produce & Piggies
Look at these happy piggies!!! Our amazing friends Erica and Melissa visited last week and brought a plethora of produce to donate for the animals! These amazing ladies worked tirelessly serving up five star vegan fare for days on end at the races, opening more hearts and minds to a compassionate way of eating & living. Then when there was some extra food left over, these gals were amazingly generous to deliver the donations here AND they brought a delicious cooked meal for us humans to share. Their kindness couldn’t have come at a better time, since my car is not cooperating lately and it’s been super challenging to make our regular pickup of produce donations. The chickens and bunnies and even some of the dogs were also really happy to receive some fresh veggies! So shout out to Melissa & Erica for their huge heroic hearts and impeccable timing!!!
