Last week I harvested three of my potato crops that I grew in grow bags. I used PawPaw Ridge's method of dumping them into a wheelbarrow to harvest them and it was really easy. You sure don't get many potatoes for all that work and time but at least I have some real Idaho potatoes!

I would like to introduce everybody to my garden protectors, Clarence and Impi after my Grandma and Grandpa Ohman. They were the inspiration to my love for gardening and I have yet to see a garden that has even come close to matching theirs. I really wish I had spent the time when I was young to get all their garden wisdom.

Hopefully, they will help me keep these blasted crows away!

Did you know that Starbucks will give you free coffee grounds? You just have to go inside and ask. They save them for gardeners. I put them on blueberries, cucumber, potatoes, peppers, and rhododendrons. Any acid loving plant!

I've also been told it repels bugs and the neighbor's cat because of its strong smell.

Heat Advisory Tips for the Garden...πŸ₯΅

1. Shade cloths and umbrellas can help protect plants from the intense sun forecasted this week. β˜‚οΈ

2. Mulching can help by retaining water for your plants. I use these mulching blocks I got at Costco earlier this spring.

3. I lengthened the amount of time my sprinkler system watersπŸ’¦ my garden temporarily until these 100+ temps go away. 🌑

Stay cool! 😎

Well, I battoned down the hatches as best as I could. My hoop house plastic has taken a beating this spring. I'll need to replace it for next year.
Gonna be windy 🌬 and COLD πŸ₯Ά today and tomorrow so the farm will stay covered.

Cover your tender veggies friends!

The catnip planter is showing signs of tampering from a certain farm friend whom shall remain nameless (πŸˆβ€β¬›οΈ). I thought putting them in a raised planter would help but I guess that's what I get for thinking. πŸ˜†

Here's a look at the weekend temperatures. Some could see frost Sunday morning as temps dip near freezing impacting outside vegetation.

June 9 Update...

I had to admit defeat and go buy zucchini plants for the first time ever from the Farmers Market. I tried four different times with two different seed packets to grow zucchini this year to no avail. Zucchini are legit easier to grow than weeds so I'm going to label this growing season as lol. πŸ₯’ It's crazy how different each growing season is year to year.

Updates on the rest are included on the photo captions.

I'm happy to report my parents gave me my grandpa' Clarence's little red Nissan truck for my trips to get soil, Farm Supplies etc. It will be so nice not to have to worry about how to get things home. πŸ›»

Ok...so I did this with a hog panel rather than a cattle panel to make a smaller trellis between my two pumpkin πŸŽƒ and 🌻 sunflower beds. Pic in comments. I'll update you with how it goes.

I'm growing potatoes in grow bags this year. Is anybody else? How do you "hill up"?

I'll let you know how it goes with mine this year.

This guy has great ideas! I'm doing vertical zucchini this year. Is anybody else going vertical?

Next year I plan on growing multiple types of NON vining squash and zucchini plants using the "Tree" structure. I think it will be awesome to have yellow squash tree, then white scalloped squash tree, then a zucchini, and what ever else I can think of. Anyone else going to try it next year?

Pros and Cons of the Squash "Tree".
Pros:
1) Improves air circulation.
2) Removes excess moisture so low chance of mildew.
3) Helps with pests do to less moisture and better visability.
4) Seems to help with Squash Borers.
5) Looks dang cool!

Cons:
1) Takes more time to set up in the beginning.
2) Plant seems to not produce as many in the same amount of time but lives longer so ends up being about the same amount of output.
3) You need a tomato cage or post.
