We have the cutest little sheepdog!

I should start charging $1.00 for every time I introduce a female dog named Bella… 🥲

Meet Bella!

Bella is a 5 month old Border Collie mix!

Little Bella is so happy and cute, it hurts smiling at her too much.
Bella was a surprise surrender yesterday when she had absolutely no where to go. She was acquired and then the family moved to a place where they could no longer have her.

Given that they didn’t have Bella too long, we are still learning about her and her likes/dislikes. We know Bella doesn’t like cats and won’t be able to go to a home with any.
Bella had not met any dogs prior to coming here, but we introduced her to our other young border collie mix, Wren, and it went really well!

We believe Bella will get along well with most other dogs! As for children, we believe she would do well them too! However, keep in mind she has no training and will jump all over them.

Bella is going to be very smart and will take to training easily! Please keep in mind that Bella’s breed is a high energy working dog. If she isn’t given a job or plenty of mental and physical exercise, she will become destructive!
Her previous owners did report she was tearing up the spot she was kept in.

I don’t see Bella growing much more and she will be on the smaller side for a Border Collie!

And though she be but little, she is fierce!

This little girl is Wren!

Wren was brought in to the shelter after she was found by a concerned citizen running along a road.

She was a bit skinny, but she was so happy to see people! I don’t think there’s much that could make Wren unhappy!

We aged Wren at 9 months and we think she could be a Border Collie x Terrier mix. At certain times, she looks like she has some Boston Terrier in her and she acts like it too!
Wren is very springy and playful! She has no training what so ever and will need adopters prepared to help her with basic commands.

Wren has not been tested with other dogs, but she is very curious about the others here. He will always stop at their kennel to sniff them out as if she’s saying “Hello! I’m happy to be here!”
We are not sure how Wren does with cats, but we could test that too!

Wren would be an excellent playmate for children, though she does jump a lot!

This positive little ball of energy wants to spread joy and smiles to all she meets!

“I love you the way that you are”

DISCLAIMER: Amara is NOT AVAILABLE at this time. She is scheduled to be spayed. Once Amara’s spay is complete and she appears to be to healing well, will we make her available. If you would like to meet her, you are still welcome to do so. But we will not place any kind of hold on her!

This precious girl is Amara.

Amara came to us through Animal Control and was so scared her first few days. She is still a little timid especially at loud noises however, Amara is starting to let her goofy side show!

We believe this girl is a boxer mix and she has the cutest underbite. When Amara first came in, I sat with her and she laid right next to me for comfort. She doesn’t want us to leave her in her kennel and it kills us to do so.

When we go outside, Amara usually paces with her tail between her legs. Eventually she will relax enough to get a few zoomies in and will run up behind you to boop you in the back.

It’s pretty clear that Amara lived a very sheltered life with little to no socialization or training.
She is not the best on walking on a leash and at times we have to pick her up.
She will not do well with yelling or harsh scolding. If you do not have the patience to build Amara confidence up calmly, then she is not the dog for you.

We have not seen how Amara does around other dogs, cats or children. I would imagine a calm and brave dog would be great to help her warm up quickly, but a meet and greet is for the best! Children who are loud and grabby probably are not a great fit for Amara at this time!

Sweet Amara is going to be a wonderful and funny pup to take in a heal with the right adopters to guide her!

It’s not everyday you see a ghost just like it’s not everyday you see a such a pure white cat!

Meet Casper! This sweet and handsome boy is a 4 year old Domestic Long Hair! He is neutered and he is declawed on his front two paws!
Please be aware that we only adopt delclawed cats out to homes where they will be kept indoors at all times!

Casper only came to us after one of his human brothers developed an allergy to cats.

He is a very friendly boy who loves everyone he meets! He gets along great with dogs, children, and even the goats! He has not lived with other cats, but given his friendly nature, we are fairly certain he will do well with them!

Casper will always be friendly and happy with anyone! However, as Casper’s guardians, we will ensure he is going to a home that will properly care for him! A long hair cat requires regular grooming to ensure they don’t become matted! Adopters should also take into consideration that he is a WHITE cat and he WILL SHED!
If you like dark furniture/dark clothes and you adopt Casper, you better be ready to keep a lint roller close by!
If he is returned to us because of his white hair getting everywhere, I will give you a long stare and a deep sigh! 🤨

The last puppy to be posted is a special boy with a special soul!

Smirnoff is our little daydreamer. When we were playing outside, I would always notice 6 playing together and would have to turn to locate the missing puppy. It was always Smirnoff.

Smirnoff would be on the other side of the yard playing by himself.. I could just imagine him being a little boy creating his own world and on some fun adventure!
I admire Smirnoff for using his imagination to forget he’s an orphan waiting for a family!

Smirnoff would be a wonderful buddy for a fellow daydreamer! He will get lost in your hopes and dreams with you!

💚💐LOVER BOY LOVER BOY💐💚

There is a gentleness about him..

It’s really hard not to pick a favorite out of a litter when they come in..
When it comes to this litter, Patron is my favorite!

It was a crazy day when these puppies arrived and with so much going on, we didn’t get a lot of time to really get to know these pups.
However, one pup made us pause and tugged at our heart..
Our puppy room has smaller kennels and we typically only keep 2 puppies to a kennel. It sucks when we have an odd number as one pup has to be on its own. Since the day was so hectic, we just randomly assigned kennels and Patron was the last boy to get checked in leaving him with the solo kennel.
At the end of the day, we gave the puppies their food and finished up our tasks. Before shutting off the light in the room, we noticed Patron didn’t touch his food. Instead, he was sitting by the kennel door watching with the most sad and pleading eyes as two of his brothers were snuggling up on their bed.
Our hearts crumpled and we couldn’t leave him like that.. So we decided to sneak him into their kennel where he instantly became more at ease and happy!

Patrón hates being left out and always wants to be a part of something! When we were outside playing, he got snapped at by one of his sisters and he instantly came and climbed in my lap.

He is a sensitive boy who feels his emotions greatly. I just love him to bits!

If you too are an emotional soul, I garuntee you will bond instantly to Patron! He will be your rock if you are his!

Adopt my sweet baby soon! If he ends up being the last of his litter, I cannot watch his little heart break!! 🥺

I’m working on a new project in my spare time! We have had our “Happy Tails” board up in the office for as long as I can remember. It has always been full of the same photos and there was no more room to add new photos. The oldest photo I believe I saw was from 2005!
As you can see in the video, Mariah and I are giving the board a holiday makeover. I just hope Stewart and Leonardo can keep their paws to themselves and not destroy it.
To keep things fresh and fun, I wanted to update the board with recent adoptions and add a little story behind the adoptions!
I plan to rotate the photos every month! To keep the memories alive, I am going to be placing every photo from the old board and any new ones submitted into scrap books that will be available for guests to look through.
I have looked through the recent Facebook messages and collected any recent submissions, but I will eventually need more!
If you want to be a part of this fun project and allow our guests to get a glimpse of your happy adoption story, please send a couple photos of your dogs and/or cats that you adopted from HSHP. Next up on our individual puppy bios is the handsome, Jim Bean!

Jim is a pup who is happy just to be where ever you are! He wants to ride shotgun with his blue collar dad and then come home to snuggle his mom!

Jim Bean is what I like to call the second in command of the litter. Jack Daniels, his twin, has the authority and leadership that the rest follow. However, none follow Jack more closely than Jim.

In his new home, Jim will find out who’s in charge and stand right next to them with unyielding loyalty!
He will no doubt grow to be a protector for the whole family!

Next time you hop in your vehicle, look to your passenger side and imagine Jim right there with you ready to take on the day and all it brings!

Bring your pets INSIDE!
If left outdoors, pets can freeze, become disoriented, lost, stolen, injured or killed.
In addition, don’t leave pets alone in a car during cold weather, as cars can act as refrigerators that hold in the cold and cause animals to freeze to death.
If you happen to see a stray call Animal Control!

Success comes from what you do consistently!

Now that we have spent more time with the puppies, we are beginning to learn more about each of their own little habits. To help find these pups homes quickly, I will be sharing individual posts about these little guys.

If you are wanting a puppy who is focused on you and respects you as his leader, Tito is your pup.
Being German Shepherd x Heeler, means Tito is going to want to work.
Having someone to give him a job whether it’s teaching him agility or fun tricks such as “fetch me a beer”, will provide Tito with mental stimulation.

You can tell by his photos that he is very alert to me using either a clicker or a squeak toy. Rather than jumping all over me, Tito would sit and focus on me and the object!

He will definitely be the type of dog who will look to you for his next moves. It’s amazing to watch him as a 9 week old puppy be so attuned to verbal communication and human movement.

Tito wants to learn and he wants to make his future adopter proud!

If you are looking for a dog to train in any direction, Tito is the way to go!!

ADOPTED: Bacardi, Tito, Hennessy, and Jack Daniel have been adopted!

STILL AVAILABLE: Patron, Smirnoff, and Jim Bean are the 3 boys still remaining!

We’re calling this litter the Good Time Puppies!

5 males and 2 females! They are German Shepherd x Australian Cattle Dog (Heeler) mixes.
They are 8 weeks old.

We are not sure how big they will get! Some may be more shepherd sized and some may be more Heeler sized.

PLEASE PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR THESE BREEDS!
Both of these breeds are high energy working breeds! They will need energetic and optimistic adopters who are doing their research and prepared to train! These breeds need to be socialized with humans and other animals at a young age! They can both become territorial if they are not properly socialized and trained!
These puppies are already expressing smart behaviors and will be eager to learn!

✨🩷THIS IS WHY WE DO IT🩷✨

Okay im going to make a post later with our recent adoptions because we have had a large amount of them!
But this one story really sticks out.. And we are fighting tears at HSHP.

Remi and her sister, Liberty, were surrendered to us back in early November. That’s 3 months, 97 days, and 2,328 hours.

Now, that doesn’t seem like a lot when there are some dogs who have been in shelters for years. But for HSHP that’s actually quite a long time.

Remi and Liberty took each day in stride and never showed that they were struggling. We often see dogs develop kennel anxiety after being here for even 3 weeks. Not Remi and Liberty. They always greeted us with the biggest tail wags and had the utmost patience.

In those 3 months, maybe 3 people inquired about Remi and Lib. And most of these people were more interested in Liberty. (Which is totally understandable! She was super cute!)

No one wanted to separate the two sisters. And we understood that! Those two had been through everything together in the 4 years of life. Including a very traumatic experience of being surrendered to a scary loud place like the shelter.

Finally, a day came where a lovely young couple came and decided to adopt Liberty. She is now in a home with 4 young friends being loved and spoiled. And we were so happy for her! However our hearts also broke. It was time for the sisters to say goodbye. We let them have a final moment and it was the saddest moment. For them, they didn’t know it was potentially the last time they were seeing each other. But we knew.

We were so sad to see Remi here by herself without her other half. Still, Remi always greeted us with a tail wag, though it was not as happy as before..
We were not sure when Remi’s moment was going to come. Then on a sunny February Sunday, a couple called and asked to do a meet and greet with their dog and Remi.

When we saw the dog we were shocked and praying that this would work out. Maddy (the potential new sister) was a 4 year old Red Heeler mix. The same age and breed as Remi.

Remi was so excited and the amazing couple made the decision to take Remi from the shelter and into their home. We were emotional and so so thankful..

And to make the day that much better, we received a picture from the new mom.
To see Remi on a couch cuddled up to her new sister is truly an amazing sight to see.

It’s more emotionally daunting to work at a shelter than it is physically. And moments like this allow us to get up in the morning with inspiration and dedication. This is why we ask for the happy photos of our dogs in their new homes.

We got some of the dawgs fitted up for Super Bowl Sunday!

The Packer gear is as close to the Eagles as we could get being green and an NFC team..🤷🏼‍♀️

The big boys got to represent NFC defense and the slender boys showed up for the AFC offense!

We had fun wrestling them into the gear and we hope everyone has a fun and safe Super Bowl Sunday!

You and me we got the world to see.
So come on down (to HSHP to meet them)

Where my OGs who grew up watching this legendary Disney Channel show??

First we got The Suite Life of Zach and Cody where they tore up that hotel! 🏫🛎️
Then we got The Suite Life on Deck where the boys pirated that cruise ship! 🛳️ 🎒
Now they’re back to run all over the Shelter! 🐾🎾

This series is only temporary and don’t we all think it’s high time we see these brothers in a home setting?

Zach is the longer haired boy with white on his chest and Cody is the short brown and black hunk.
We believe they are Australian Shepherd mixes and we also estimate they are around 1 year.
They are both males and are not neutered.

Zach is obviously the more outgoing and rambunctious of the two. He’s brave and not afraid of the consequences!
Cody is clearly the more cautious of the two. He prefers to analyze the situation before he makes a move!

Both are friendly and loveable!
These two were found by a couple different folks running around Feedlot Road and Toulon.
It’s not clear if they were dumped or just ran from a farm and were never claimed.

However they came to be strays, they are now here ready for their new forever homes! We are not requiring that they be adopted together!

Once you adopt one or both of these dudes you’ll be saying, This is the suite life! We’ve got the suit life!

Visit the Humane Society for the perfect game day companion!🐕 The first half it looked like the Chiefs were going to take it to the house, but the Eagles began to make a strong comeback! We were all tied up in the 4th quarter when the chiefs made the final score.. Philly has the chance to strike back, with our last pooch to make the final pick! ADOPTED 🩵🎒Needy Boy Needs a Home🎒🩵 Someone come adopt him TODAY! Snickers is the last sibling from his family to need a home and the only kitten we have available. He is super needy and is constantly following us out the door! While I would love to drop everything and give him my full undivided attention, I have to do other tasks much to Snickers dismay.. His bags are packed and he is ready to move on out!

❄️⛄️SNOW MUCH FUN⛄️❄️ We’re back in action out here at HSHP! We got in 5 new animals today and had one get adopted! One boy who is having too much fun is Lucas. Where the other dogs were saying “yeah no..” Lucas was saying “YEAH LETS GO!” He was having an absolute BLAST playing in the snow. What you unfortunately missed was after this video we needed to use the yard for a meet and greet and we needed to put an end to Lucas’ fun. But he wasn’t going in without a fight. I was outside in my Santa slippers diving in an attempt to capture Lucas.. RIP to my slippers. Anyway, enjoy this cute video.

✨🍾SEE YOU NEXT YEAR🍾✨ The last post of 2024 for HSHP! It was a beautiful year full of memorable moments. To the animals that made us laugh. To the animals that made us cry. To the animals that made us love. We miss every single one of them. We are so proud and happy that they are ringing in the new year with their new families. To the people that chose to adopt. To the people that chose to donate. To the people that chose to volunteer. We are so grateful for you and hope you have had a wonderful year with us and our animals! I cannot wait to see what the next year will bring! I have so many hope and dreams to bring to this place and have made my New Years Resolutions! We will see you again in 2025!

UPDATE ADOPTED!! 🥀💔SOMEONE, STOP THE HEARTBREAK💔🥀 I cannot watch Honey get her heart broke, one more time. Honey is one of our Lonely Heart Cats. She is young and a gorgeous cat, but she is hesitant to be friends with humans. I noticed Honey would always watch other cats with such interest. So to help her feel less lonely, I introduced her to some of our other friendly cats. While most cats when they first meet each other may hiss and growl before they become friends, Honey wants to jump right into friendship. She always runs right up to them with heart eyes. However, Honey is beginning to think she is cursed. Every friend she gains gets adopted as soon as they meet.. Nala was another lonely hearts cat with no interest. A few days after her and Honey met, Nala was adopted. The same situation with BiBi.. I just introduced Marco Polo and her this morning and right away after we opened, he was adopted. I love that our cats are getting adopted, but I hate that Honey is suffering not only the loss of her friends, but getting left behind… If you have a friendly cat and would love to add another, Honey is perfect! She will come around to humans and will learn to love them if she has a confident cat to teach her!
