Rest in eternal comfort, hero.

We are heartbroken to share that our long-time veterinarian Michelle Kim, DVM, left this world unexpectedly. Dr. Kim's quiet brilliance and endless compassion were her marks of excellence.

This is the last photo we have with Dr. Kim (pictured here with Mason the Rabbit). In late June, Dr. Kim performed a successful, daring surgery on our guy Mason - one of the many miracles she worked in her lifetime. Simply put, Dr. Kim possessed healing superpowers.

In her loving memory, contributions to "The Linus Memorial Fund" are welcome at Chabot Veterinary Clinic to support community animal rescue efforts.

Contributions may be sent to:

We also encourage you to send a card or email to your veterinarian with a message of gratitude and love for the incredible work they do every single day.

Beautiful words for the most beautiful soul

We are heartbroken to share with our members and supporters that HRS veterinarian Dr. Michele Kim has passed unexpectedly. Her family would like their privacy respected during this time of mourning.

There are no words to express how much the team at House Rabbit Society will miss Dr. Kim. She was a tireless advocate for all animals, and anyone who had the pleasure of working and talking with her knew her patient and loving manner. She was an incredibly talented veterinarian who gave each animal her all. Her spirit of advocacy and care for rabbits will continue to inspire us.

“Dr. Kim’s gentle kindness, knowledge, and incredible talent existed through all of the animals that she helped, all the families she made more complete through helping their beloved companions, her colleagues that she learned from and taught and inspired, and her friends and family who she shared her life with,” said Dr. Anne Martin, executive director at House Rabbit Society. “I hold my cat close and remember how Dr. Kim cared for her when she was very sick—Dr. Kim lives on in her. And she amputated the injured toes of my rabbit, Trevor—Dr. Kim lives on in him. And with each of us who she taught and inspired—Dr. Kim lives on through us. May we continue to see her kindness, knowledge, and talent reflected back to us everywhere we look, and may it be a comfort that she will always be with us.”

Chabot Veterinary Clinic, where Dr. Kim also worked, has established a memorial fund in her honor to support rescue cats and rabbits. The fund will be used to ensure that rabbits and cats in need are not limited by finances. Donations can be directed to the Linus Memorial Fund, named after Dr. Kim’s beloved cat, at Chabot Veterinary Clinic located at 20877 Foothill Blvd, Hayward, CA 94541. For more information, either email [email protected] or call (510) 538-2330. Chabot is a for-profit clinic, so donations to the fund are not tax-deductible.

To all our beloved clients, we are so sad to announce that Dr. Michele Kim has passed unexpectedly. There are no details, and her family would like their privacy respected during this time of mourning.

Michele's love of animals was obvious and she always went above and beyond to make sure every patient was taken care of. She was an excellent, meticulous doctor, and an outstanding, humble, funny person. We are going to miss her so much. The world is going to miss her so much.

She hated pictures, and would kill me for sharing one, so I found one already posted. Hoping she won't mind.

We are establishing a memorial fund to support rescue/rescued cats and rabbits as we believe she would wish here at Chabot. Funds can be directed to the Linus Memorial Fund (her kitty) at Chabot Vet Clinic and will be used to ensure that rabbits and cats in need are not limited by finances. As we are not a non-profit clinic, the donations are not tax-deductible. We debated directing funds to specific rescues she worked with, but as a group with guidance from her family and close friends, decided she valued all rescues, and their efforts, along with client owned rescued pets.

Thank you so much for all of your support. It means the world to us, and we will compile all these beautiful comments for the family in a hard bound book.

We apologize, but Chabot was closed today and will be closed Monday to mourn the loss of one of our Chabot family. Please be patient and considerate as we try to reschedule appointments. We plan to reopen on Tuesday, August 24th, 2021 at a reduced capacity. Our phones and emails will not be monitored while closed. We ask that you seek urgent care at any one of our local emergency clinics:

VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in San Leandro

For rabbits, exotics, dogs and cats -
Berkeley Dog and Cat in Berkeley - call for rabbits first
Pets Referral in Berkeley - call for rabbits
Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in San Ramon.
VCA Bay Area in Oakland (on Shattuck) - not an ER practice, may be able to see exotics in need of care- call first
UC Davis CAPE Service - exotics only, call first.

We know how difficult it is to get quality pet care in a timely manner during the pandemic. We are all doing the best we can for you and your pets. We appreciate your consideration and sympathy during this time, and further announcements will be made next week as we ensure family and close friends are informed.

Public Announcement: ***This is being updated. Please see Post dated 3/23/2020***

Due to the current situation with the COVID-19 virus, we have changed our check-in protocol earlier this week. These changes reflect our concern for your health and the health of our valued employees.
1. Leave your pet in your vehicle. The waiting rooms will be used only for checking in and out.
2. Check in with the receptionist at the front desk and collect a number to place on your vehicle.
3. Wait with your pet in your vehicle.
4. A receptionist or technician will come out to your vehicle to es**rt you and your pet to an examination room or bring your pet in while you wait in your car for a technician visit or drop off. You may have forms to fill out while waiting in your car.
5. If you or anyone in your household is ill, we ask that an alternative person bring your pet in. We can also offer a drop-off appointment if appropriate to protect our staff and other clients.
6. Please call ahead for prescription refills to allow us time to prepare them rather than walk-in requests.
7. We are working hard to increase the frequency and coverage of our disinfection protocols to minimize risk of exposure for our employees and clients.
Your understanding and cooperation in these difficult and unpredictable times is deeply appreciated. We at Chabot Veterinary Clinic understand that your pet's care is important and we are committed to doing our best to serve your needs.
We will be updating our policies and procedures as recommendations from our health departments and government are made and we streamline and optimize our operations.
Thank you so much for your patience as we all navigate this new reality.
