You guys are amazing! Within 24 hours, your generosity has reached Esmé's goal and then some! Not only is her emergency care covered, but we will also be able to use this towards some of her "normal" vetting like vaccines, spay, and preventatives. THANK YOU simply isn't good enough! Esmé sends her love and so do we. You guys are the best!

Hey everybody! Meet Esmé. We debated names for days, and finally we stumbled upon Esmé which means "to be loved". We felt that name and meaning was very fitting for this dainty, little sweetheart.

Esmé's life hasn't been an easy one. From everything we can tell she has lived life as a piece of property probably being used as a breeding stock. Esmé has many old scars and broken teeth. She appears to have had many litters (including a fairly recent one). She has skin issues, and she was quite literally covered in fleas upon intake. She also was unable to walk when animal control arrived on site. We shudder to think how long she might have been helpless on the side of the road like this. AC notified the volunteers that she may need some vet care. When the volunteers got to the shelter, Esmé appeared to have given up. She would eat small bites, but she was barely able to even lift her head...much less maneuver in the shelter. Once the volunteers saw the amount of pain she was in, they knew she couldn't wait until Monday.

Esmé was rushed to the vet to see what might be going on with her. Upon arrival the vet techs wasted no time. They didn't care about her oozing skin or the fleas jumping everywhere off of her. They started checking her out immediately and for the first time Esmé seemed to have a glimmer of hope. She glanced around the room and tried to take a few steps. Her steps were not fruitful (as she whimpered and took a slip), but they gave us an idea of what was going on with her. Xrays and some bloodwork later and we knew what we were working with....broken pelvis, broken ribs, and internal bleeding. She was hospitalized from there. We didn't expect the call we got the next day, but we were overjoyed to hear that our girl was improving quickly! We got the call that she could be released Tuesday with strict activity restrictions and medications. Our vet also noted that she was loaded with hookworms as well as had been previously shot. We would like to note that she took a special liking to one of the vet techs who cared for her and would wag her tail anytime that he was in sight. I think she will always remember him and that he was her savior. We are super thankful to him and the rest of the veterinary team that took her on and got this girl well.

As of today, Esmé (or Ezzie for short) is recovering quietly in a foster home. She is getting used to air conditioner, blankets, and pillows. She loves her treats, and she is starting to want to rest in foster Mom's lap. She is being toted in and out like a princess, and she is wobbling around outside to potty fairly well. Her soulful eyes are working her foster Dad over. I know this determined girl has great things ahead of her and such a wonderful story ahead.

With Ezzie's story just beginning to unfold, we could certainly use some help covering her emergency bill to get her further on her journey. If you can spare just a few dollars, it goes a long way. We can't help dogs like Ezzie without your help. With no federal, state or local funds for emergencies like these, we count on our little community, our rescue and animal friends, and our support system to help us save dogs like Ezzie. More updates to come on this girl!

The saddest part of rescue, is that it never ends.

Got a call about this girl today from our shelter director. Rushed her to the vet. Broken pelvis, broken ribs, and internal bleeding. Not to mention what this poor Mama has endured prior to whatever caused all this trauma (these are not all fresh wounds). Yet, she is still the sweetest girl you could ask for. Never again beautiful baby…. Fight the good fight. You deserve better, and we will make sure if you make it out of the woods that you will have nothing but the best.

She could use some positive vibes, prayers, crossed fingers and even toes. The next 24 hours will be crucial for her!
