Colorado pet owners have something to be concerned about! A proposed ballot measure endangers pets by permitting unqualified individuals, called Veterinary Professional Associates (VPAs), to perform surgery. Their credentials are minimal, consisting of completing mostly an online program and one internship.

8 in 10 pet owners want a licensed veterinarian, not a midlevel employee, to oversee their pet’s care. Proposed Initiative 145 introduces an entirely new role in Colorado called a Veterinary Professional Associate (VPA), whose training would be mostly online with minimal hands-on instruction and allowed to perform surgery after only a one-semester internship.
