“The summer of 2017 with KB Horses was truly a life-changing experience and one I will always hold close to my heart. As a girl from central Ohio, I had never seen mountains before, let alone experienced the raw beauty of Utah. Being surrounded by such breathtaking landscapes was incredible, but what truly made the summer unforgettable was the opportunity to work with the horses, the people, and especially Bren, who was a fantastic mentor in every sense of the word.

One of the most magical parts of the summer was the rare connection I formed with a horse in the herd named Murphy. There was something so special and unspoken between us, as if we just understood each other on a deeper level. That bond taught me so much about trust, communication, and the unique relationship between humans and animals. It was humbling and inspiring to build that connection, and it’s something I still carry with me today.

The friendships I made with my fellow interns also became one of the highlights of the experience. We came from different places and backgrounds, but we shared so much laughter, hard work, and support during our time together. These friendships turned into lifelong bonds, and I’m so grateful for the memories we created and the people who are still part of my life today.

Bren’s mentorship was absolutely extraordinary. She didn’t just teach me how to care for and connect with the horses; she taught me invaluable lessons about how to run a business, navigate challenges, and approach life with authenticity and determination. Her guidance helped me develop skills in leadership, organization, and problem-solving that have been instrumental in my journey.

Now, as a successful business owner and manager myself, I often reflect on what I learned during my summer with KB Horses. So many of the lessons Bren shared about running a business and building relationships are things I carry with me every day. The skills, confidence, and perspective I gained that summer helped shape the foundation of who I am as a professional.

This internship was more than just a summer job; it was a stepping stone that prepared me for the “real world.” It taught me resilience, teamwork, and the importance of being passionate about what you do. KB Horses will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’m endlessly grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such an amazing program.
