The Canine Good Citizen Test or CGC through the American Kennel Club is a process to ensure owners are responsible for their dogs and have taught basic manners. The CGC test includes 10 parts which can be found in the second picture as well as the responsibility portion for the owner/trainer. Everything we do with our dogs in this program is a partnership. We are so lucky to have a program that challenges us and encourages these human-animal relationships! Hey Guys! I know you are used to seeing me in green but I have been promoted to a yellow bandanna! 💛💚This yellow bandanna means I can explore more of campus and further my training in the campus center, scola, and the new library when it’s ready! I worked hard and was assessed on skills like loose leash walking in a crowded area, settling under a table uninterrupted for 3 min, greeting a stranger, waiting while my human talks with a stranger, and staying calm around other dogs. This was not easy but I’m doing so good and my training is showing off!

Brad made some major accomplishments these past few weeks in his training! Brad earned his yellow bandanna giving him more privileges on campus and passed his CGC test! What does that look like?🤔stay tuned for more educational content through December!

Pushing a button has lead to more growth! Brad can now assist in opening doors! You can hear the command “open” before the point as a way of chaining new and known stimuli’s when training. This door was a challenge since the button was small but Brad did not give up! Also notice how after he has pressed the button he waits and makes eye contact till released and we walk through the door as a way to check in. Brad has been doing great and learning fast!

This was part of a semester project where Brad learned a shaping trick “under” which is where Brad goes under a table and lies down into a wait. This trick will come in handy next semester when Brad works toward a vest in the Anthrozoology program! This also helped him earn his yellow bandanna as part of the test includes a 3 min settle in the campus center.
