The LCHS is a private, community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides shelter for unwanted and stray animals (primarily dogs and cats) while working to end pet overpopulation, reduce the need for euthanasia, and improve the humane treatment and well-being of companion animals. It serves a population of roughly 70,000 residents in southwestern Montana and a service area covering roughly

5,500 square miles. Since its creation in 1964, LCHS has continued to grow and expand its facilities and programs along with the growth of the community. In an effort to decrease the amount of animals that come through the shelter, we work tirelessly to make sure the pets in our community are vaccinated and spayed and neutered while in our care. LCHS also has a comprehensive foster care program - including day-trips and sleepovers - in order to help meet the needs of all the animals in our care while they wait for their forever homes. We also have multiple specialized personnel who work to socialize, exercise, and train animals in our care, in order to provide the best quality of life for the animals. 🚨 Towel Emergency! We’re Out Again! 🆘

With all this cold, wet weather, we’ve been working overtime to keep our shelter clean and cozy for our animals—which means we’re out of towels AGAIN! 😱

Between drying off muddy paws and mopping up winter messes, our laundry piles up fast.

If you have any used (or new!) towels to spare, we’d be so grateful for the donation!

🍫 World Nutella Day: The Perfect Time to Meet… Nutella! 🐶

Hello, lovely humans. It’s me, Nutella—the sweet, lovable pup who’s been waiting way too long for my forever home. And today? It’s WORLD NUTELLA DAY. A day dedicated to me! (Okay, fine, maybe the chocolate stuff too, but let’s be real—I’m way better.)

Here’s the thing: I’m sweet as can be once I know you, but I can be a little shy when meeting new people. I just need a little time to warm up, and once I do? You’ll have a best friend for life. I adore my humans, I’m learning to be more social with other dogs, and I may do well with the right fit. I’m putting in the work—now I just need someone willing to meet me halfway.

Yet, somehow… I’m still here. Watching other dogs leave while I keep waiting. 😔 Do you know how that feels? (Spoiler: It’s not great.)

Hello, humans. It’s me, Glinda—the gorgeous, goofy, and slightly sassy feline who’s been waiting (and waiting… and waiting) for someone to notice how spectacular I am.

Look, I see you scrolling past my profile. I hear you saying, “Oh, she’s cute!” before moving on. But you haven’t inquired about me. Not even once! Do you know how that makes a cat feel?!

I’m hilarious, I’m full of personality, and I adore people. Like, truly—snuggles, chats, and all the attention? I’m here for it. Other cats? I can tolerate them. Mellow or older dogs? Fine, I’ll allow it. But mostly, I just want a home. A cozy, love-filled, treat-giving home.

Maybe you just need to meet me to understand. Maybe you don’t realize yet that I’m exactly the cat you’ve been missing. But here’s the thing: I’m done waiting for “maybe.”

A big shoutout to the Walmart Volunteer Group for spending their time helping our shelter! They cleaned kennels, tidied both buildings, made dog enrichment supplies, and finished cleaning up the cat pod after our painting project!

Kingston got a bit of a break from the shelter recently, getting to go on a foster sleepover for a few days!

His foster family reports that Kingston is a super sweet guy, and will make a great companion for someone in need of a friend! Kingston is clearly great at couch-cuddles, and can’t wait to make himself at home on your couch!

Hey I’m Blazey, your future best friend!

You may remember me; I came to the shelter just a few weeks ago with a badly broken leg that couldn’t be saved. Well, I’m happy to report that my leg amputation surgery went great, and I’m ready for my forever family to find me!

I may only have three legs now, but I’m still able to dance, wiggle and play! I promise my joy knows no bounds. I might look a little different, but my playful spirit is ready to warm your heart. I’m all about cuddles and companionship. And let’s not forget my adorable pointy ears—they're as cute as can be! I’m not just sweet; I’m also very polite! I wait patiently for the okay before I dig into my meals, and I’m incredibly gentle with everyone I meet. I thrive when I’m surrounded by other dogs; they bring out the best in me! Eager to please, I’m a quick learner and love to show off my skills. I’m still working on going potty outside consistently since I’m easily distracted and have had a lot of change recently. I am sure I will make great strides in this area. Whether we’re playing in the yard or enjoying some downtime together, I promise to bring joy and laughter to your home. I love a good snuggle and would be more than happy to keep you warm for hours on end. If you’re looking for a loyal friend who will fill your life with love, I could be your gal. I can’t wait to meet you and start our journey together!

Phoenix had a wonderful time at her foster sleepover this weekend!

Of course, we already knew what an amazing dog Phoenix is, but here’s how her sleepover foster went:

✨She got to play with toys, and her foster mom said she was “very well-behaved”

That’s right, hoomans—Nutella here, bringing you all the squish and all the sass of a Shar Pei… just with a little extra mystery mixed in! I may not be purebred, but I’m pure perfection when it comes to adventure, snuggles, and keeping you entertained with my goofy antics.

✨ Glinda is Still Waiting for Her Magic Moment! ✨

4 months. That’s how long Glinda has been waiting for her forever home. This sweet girl adores humans—snuggling, hanging out, and keeping a smile on your face—but she’s not a fan of other cats. She’s got all the love and all the attitude (as any fabulous feline should!)

Glinda is a total acrobat, always ready to entertain with her silly antics! But the shelter stresses her out, and she doesn’t show her best self here. That’s why we’re asking anyone interested to reach out to Shannon to schedule a special meeting and see the real Glinda shine.

Hi, It’s Me, Buffy… Did Santa Forget About Me? https://secure.qgiv.com/for/christmascampaign I’ve been watching all my shelter friends get the most amazing surprises this week—stockings full of treats, toys, and so much love. Their tails wag, their purrs get louder, and their smiles light up the room. It’s been so wonderful to see… but my stocking is still empty. My people are telling me that not even one person has donated to fill give me Christmas presents....what did I do wrong? I’ve been in the shelter's care for 72 days now, waiting patiently for my wonderful life to begin. I know I’m a little shy and take my time to trust, but I promise I’m worth it. I dream of a soft blanket, a jingly toy, and maybe even a few tasty snacks just for me. I’m trying not to feel forgotten, but it’s hard not to wonder… could there be someone out there who believes I deserve a little Christmas magic too? If you can help fill my stocking, I’d be so grateful. Your kindness would remind me that I matter and that my forever home is just around the corner. Love and hopeful purrs, Buffy

Our staff certainly had a great time cookin' up something tasty for the animals tho! And boy did they love the special treat! This Thanksgiving, our hearts are full of gratitude for you, our incredible community of supporters. Your kindness and generosity make it possible for us to continue our mission, and we are endlessly thankful for all you do to help us make a difference.
