Another year of Western Regionals has come and gone and as always it didnā€™t disappoint.

James or I have made every one, even before Logan and Jessie turned it into the show itā€™s become. From sorting in the now warm up pen to this years Finals Night, Reno has always been good to us. Thank you to the staff and crew who keep the show running, thank to you the contestants that make it a fun competition, and thank you to all those who support us as producers throughout the year.

had multiple finalists with Aleta Haase and I finishing third in the 11/2, (she snagged 4th with Joel), Brad Langdale had a good finish in the masters with Kim Christy, Kathy and I made a valiant effort in the 14 Ranch Hand to come up just short of the win, Kim, Michelle and I had scary finish for money in the three man, Phyllis Sickels, and Greg and Sharon Wood made the finals, and trust me I know Iā€™m forgetting othersā€¦but everyone made me proud.
and I finished with a win, a hug, and a slight cry in the 12 before Michelle walked away with her High Point Amateur Saddle!

I ended up third high point in the open behind some no name guys šŸ˜‰

To everyone who stopped to chat, spotted for me, and my stalwart ground crew (check out not just because she has a handy step stool), my deepest thanks! I love the camaraderie that horses bring us. James and I couldnā€™t be more blessed to be part of such a great community.

To all the horses I rode and their owners I know that thank you is never enough, but THANK YOU for trusting me with your ponies and your ponies for trusting me right back.

See you all somewhere down the road!

P.S. I wish I had more pictures but I spent most of my time being the voice from above and enjoying the ride!

Love winning with clients and friends! Michelle Cheek killed it in the pen and both her ponies were little beasties!

November 14, 1967 ā€“ July 31, 2024

Matt Lee Hill, along with his twin brother Mark Dee were born November 14th, 1967 to Tom and Glenda Hill. Dr Ceriani delivered the twins at Kremmling Memorial Hospital. The twins joined brother and sister, Jodi and Shawn at home. The family welcomed little sister Samijean in 1977. Matt started life on the Troublesome Ranch and then the family moved to the Gore Pass Ranch where the kids were raised. Matt attended West Grand Schools. He worked on several Ranches throughout his younger years, including Con Ritchards, Aunt Lucille Wall, and Uncle Gary Hill. Matt loved horses, cattle, dogs, and cats. He was a ā€œhell of a good handā€ and loved breaking colts with his Grandpa Fran. Matt worked for Ted and Peppy Scott at Kremmling Wild Game for several years. Matt Married Alexis Farrell in September 1993, and soon after had a daughter, Rainie Marie Hill. He was a loving father and was always great with kids. Matt purchased Top Notch Fence Company from his brother Mark and continued to grow the company after moving to Montrose Colorado. Matt moved to Montrose in 2008 and resided there with his wife Heidi (Peterson), where they ranched, hayed and sorted. He loved team penning, sorting, and roping with his family and friends. Matt was the only person to win the team penning at all three stock shows: Denver, San Antonio, and Fort Worth in the same year. Matt especially enjoyed being a pickup man at local rodeos.

Matt was preceded in death by his dad Tom Clay Hill and Grandparents Fran and Virgie Hill and Clayton and Olga Hill. Survivors include his mom Glenda Hill, brothers Mark (Polly) Hill and Jodi (Sandy) Hill, sisters Shawn (Kelly) Farrell and Sami (Shawn) Leachman, his daughter Rainie (Drew) Stefanic, and wife Heidi. Matt had many nieces and nephews he enjoyed watching grow up and supported them in all their endevors.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests honoring Matt with donations to the Matt Hill Youth Memorial Fund, CO Shawn Farrell, 855 CR 37 Parshall CO. 80468

A celebration of life will be held on October 5th at 11:00 at the Kremmling Fairgrounds and October 12th at 2:00 at Matt and Heidiā€™s residence in Montrose, Co.
