Today I got to do my favorite schnauzer. She’s a toy schnauzer and I love doing her. I get to do a breed standard schnauzer cut on her and it always comes out looking cute. Doing hair cuts like these let me be creative and put my knowledge to the test. I’ve been doing continued education towards my craft and I learn something new every day!!!

I plan on starting at the Chadron Companion Animal Clinic on September, 11th. Contact me at 308-760-3510 to schedule an appointment. All scheduling will go through me and not the clinic. Pets being groomed at the clinic must be updated on all of their vaccinations to protect the pet and others.

Fair week was a week full of doing dogs and it was great. I love it when all my spots are full for the day. I appreciate my customers and I’m honored that they trust me with their pets. As a pet owner myself I know it’s not always easy to trust others with your pet. They’re not just pets they’re a part of the family.

Today was an easy day of grooming with this sweet boy. He was the only dog I had scheduled today and I was so happy I could take my time with him and give him the pampering he deserved. He stole my heart and I can’t wait for his next appointment.

If you want to know what I use to make my shampoo nice and foamy message me and I’ll send you the link. This device helps me so much with being able to evenly spread the shampoo. It makes it foamy so it’s ten times easier to rub into the coat and makes it so you don’t have to use as much product. Depends on the type of shampoo of how foamy it will come out. If you like to give your dogs baths at home I would definitely recommend this product.

A big thing you may not think about that often when you own a dog is how often you should clip their nails? When you google it most websites say 3-4 weeks. This doesn't apply to all dogs. If you have outside dogs most of the time they don't need their nails trimmed. This is because they're active and they naturally wear their nails down. I've seen this with owners though with outside dogs. They never had to worry about their nails and then the dog starts to get old. They're not as active and they are not wearing down their nails anymore. They start to get long and long nails can affect their walking.

Also extreme growth of the nails allows the quicks to become long. If you don't know what the quick is its this sensitive part of the nail where if you cut it the nail will bleed. So the quick becoming long makes it so you can't trim the nail as short and the nail has to stay longer. The way to fix this is by trimming their nails often to get the quick to recede. If the quick is long you should get them done every two weeks to get the quick to recede. With clear nails it's very easy to see the quick. With black nails you have to cut little by little until you can see the quick. I posted a picture below as a guide. A lot of people don't like to trim black nails because they're so easy quick.

Also another thing is dew claws. You have to keep an eye on these because you can forget about them. If they are left to grow long just like any other nail they can grow into the foot. Causing pain to the dog. Now I encourage every dog owner to keep an eye on those nails. If you don't feel comfortable doing them yourselves I can easily get you in for a nail trim. If you have any other questions about nail trims I would be happy to help answer them.

Today I got to do a golden doodle named Baxter. He was so sweet and did so good for his hair cut. He is definitely one of the cutest pups I’ve done so far. When I first started him I couldn’t see his eyes. Now you can see his pretty eyes and I’m sure he can see better too. I can tell that he has some great owners that take great care of him.

If your a new dog owner you may be wondering what kind of brush is the most efficient for the breed of dog you have. The first thing to look at is what kind of coat type they have. I have a bull mastiff so he has short hair and the best brush for him is a furminator brush. It has many teeth that get to the small loose hairs. But my dog Bella who is a whoodle (Wheaton terrier poodle) she has a longer coat and a different type of hair. The proper brush for her is a slicker brush. She doesn’t have an undercoat so that brush is pretty much all I need. Now if you have a dog with a longer coat but has a double coat for example a husky you can use several brushes to get that hair out. You can use a slicker brush, furminator, and a brush called a undercoat rake. Using all these kinds of brushes ensures your getting the top coat out and the undercoat. If you have some sort of wired hair terrier a furminator and slicker brush should be used for best results. Using the proper brush helps to ensure your dog doesn’t get matted. Mats are pretty much big tangles and they can get close to the skin and pull the skin. This can make your pet very uncomfortable. If anyone has questions on home grooming you can give me a call at 308-760-3510. I’ll answer the questions to the best of my knowledge. I’m here to help keep your pets feeling great and looking good. I have some labeled pictures of the brushes to help you know which ones are which. You can also send me a question on messenger and I’ll answer back as soon as I can. If you dont know what type of hair they have send me a picture and I will help.

I’d like to introduce Bella. She’s a Wheaton terrier poodle and she’s mine. This is actually her second full groom and she did such a great job. I love to groom her and it gives me extra practice. She loves to say hi to my customers and even tries to jump in their cars to go home with them. She is my happy helper and sits down stairs with me while I groom. She is so sweet and loves and gets along with every dog she meets. Even if they don’t like her she loves them.
